I knew everyone would look, Now that I have your attention, I want to know how your company "Pays for Training", More specifically, how New hires are compensated during New Hire training???

Recently, at interviews, we were giving the company spill about Pay, Benies, Etc. and Included what our company pays during training.

1. 72 hour guarantee from Day 1

2. 24 hour per diem while in training

3. Single occupancy hotel while in training.

Everyone was in Shock, Do all companies not do this??? Please be honest, We are not going to change our policy because of what other companies do.

I also would rather not get into the "PFT" discussion, that's on another thread, go post it there please! Like I was told in college "RTFQ" ( figure it out!), If anyone post here about "PFT", then they just saw the header and opened their mouth, you have my permission to PM them and call them anything you want!

ExpressJet is only Per Diem in a lump sum check (works out to be about $1400). Double occupancy hotel room. You're not on the payroll until you pass your checkride. However, if you wish to go home on weekends, you get a positive space pass, to and from training.
 
CHQ pays $500 for the first 30 days and then you get your guarantee (75 hrs/mo) from then on out. Hotel works out to be double occupancy until you get finished with your checkride, however, due to hotel scheduling and such, many had their own room.
 
ASA pays guarantee (75 hours) from day one. You will also get your ID badge immediately, if not the first day definitely the first week. Hotel is single occupancy until IOE. You get 24-hr per diem if you are based anywhere other than ATL, but that is unlikely.
 
Mesaba:
Employee from day one.
75 Hour guarante pay.
No per diem.
Single occupancy hotel room (unless you already live in MSP).
Travel benefits from day one.
Medical benefits the first day of the next month of hire date (if you want them).
 
Mesa:
Employee from day one
70 hours garantee (28 days bid period)
Per diem starts after checkride
Hotel is on your own

Wow, that's pretty cool. At Trans States, they won't even give you positive space when you're deadheading home anymore.

I'm not sure if you are looking to save money by lowering your training pay/accommodations to that of others, but I would urge you to NOT change your policy just because other regionals are not as generous as you guys,. There are a few, like Eagle whom I work for, that pay good per diem, single occupancy and guaranteed pay (65 hrs) during training and I know they get more applicants because of it. More applicants means you get better picks. Maybe I have issues but I would not have gone any place where I would need to share a room/bathroom/shower with another guy for two months.

I have a good friend who is in training right now with PSA (or starting this week) and the package you offer new hires is one of the main reasons he took the job. You got a good pilot/employee with a great attitude because of it.

It is in our contract (for what that's worth) that training is paid the way it is. Otherwise trainees wouldn't be paid. It is a nice way to start with an "airline" though.
 
Trans States

They give you 60 hrs/month starting day one.
You pay for hotel/crashpad.
You start with the 70hrs guarentee after you have finished IOE.
That was anywhere from 6 - 10 weeks.
You did the ID first day so you were able to commute home on
weekends.

Just as a side note, Eagle is no longer single occupancy during training. One more reason it's good to be a girl - a good chance you get your own room!

I'd say you have issues....Let's put it this way, If UPS (Fed Ex, SWA, Whoever you want to work for) called and said we'll hire you but you'll have to share a room with 10 other people would you not go!

No we are not UPS but you get my point. Like I said, we are not changing any of our policies. Sounds to me that Eagle may do things a little different from when you got hired, Luckily for you it was after you were hired, Or you wouldn't be there....Thanks for the input

Why is a chief pilot wasting time posting on this message board?

I'd have expected those kind of self indulgent antics from your old Dir of Training (Brad Silv_____in). I'm surprised to see if from the "new" PSA.

Colgan:

-$50/day until you pass your checkride, then 75hrs/month guarantee
-They pay for double occupancy hotel (hope you don't get the Battlefield Inn)

Once you pass your checkride, you get single occupancy for all future training engagements. Also:

-Recurrent ground school is 2hrs pay/day
-Recurrent sim is 4hrs pay/day

Somewhat respectable for a bottom-feeder. They don't start the serious chiseling until you get online :)

It is the "new" PSA if you consider the "old" PSA was the Pacific Southwest Airlines that had the smiling faces on the planes and younger, hotter flight attendants in the cabins.
 
What is wrong with a Chief Pilot posting on here? Do you not think any aviation board where there is any discussion on a particular companies labor goings ons, that there isn't a mole of some sort of lurker of management that might check it out??? If not then, then most likely a fellow pilot with aspirations of becoming a management type which reports back what they see and hear etc.....be it flightinfo, usaviation, yahoo groups, alpa boards, teamster boards, you name it. Other than that, at least we know our paranoid thoughts are true (we are being watched...j/k) Anyways I personally think it's #1 a way to make public knowledge we are hiring and looking, to people that may not otherwise know. And a good source to start rumors to keep everyone on their toes....
So lay off him....At least our chief pilots have the balls to show their faces.....LOL

We are "PSA" not Pacific Southwest Airlines....That may have been the original abbreviation for them but our certificate and everything associated with has "PSA", Nothing with Pacific .... Yes, that's were it came from, but that's where it ends. It was all about statue of limitations and US Air worrying about someone using the name to start another airline, something about Brand recognition. Same thing with Henson changing their name to Piedmont. Most kids today have no idea about PSA, Eastern, Braniff, Pan AM, or anything that combined to make US Airways Ie. Mohawk, All American, Allegheny, Etc. It's all a dang shame. THX

No problem, it's a North American Sabreliner. You don't see a lot of them these days. I flew a couple of them corporate for several years.
 
Well the 8 time and the 727 time was hard labor out of S. Fl. Flying mostly south but a lot of world wide stuff. Non-sked freight dog. 9 years of it, along with some purgatory spent in the managment ranks there. In hindsight shoulda stayed when US called, was starting my capt. upgrade when they called, and would be at TOS there about sen# 7 or so now, Prob. on the DC-10. Oh well, can't really pass the major calling though.....

As for OTG.....well I've got pretty thick skin, as you pretty much have to at this point. Most of it's fun watching some of these get spooled up. If I can't be in the Keys fishing, might as well do it here.
Oh by the by, when you wanna go back to the line and need a replacement, I haven't done your position yet, might be interesting. Would love to see the faces with a J4J as a CP??? Priceless.
