Under the old scheduling there were no 4 day trip stuck next to a 2 day trip, now PBS has the freedom to do this to you if you are not senior enough. Also there is a "force flying" option, where trips that are not covered, or have not enough reserve coverage for, will be forced by seniority level, diregarding requested days off, or whatever else you bid. It was no good for me.

PBS is only as good as the work rules that encompass it. IOW it's a good deal if it's structured around excellent trip and duty rigs. It also helps if you have a trustworthy management, or a union that has a hand in the pairing construction.

AB is right on the mark. At NWA when the trips were built decently and the they weren't trying to cram every little piece of trash on your schedule, it worked great. Most PBS systems MUST have a certain amount of open time to work with, otherwise their solutions fall apart, and people get slammed with unwanted flying.

I used PBS at NWA for almost 7 years and it worked very, very well. Now that they've tried to eliminate open flying, the system can't work properly.
