How much does a person make as a Southwest trainee in Dallas? Do you get per diem?

Thanks

As a ramper you get paid day one, even during training.

to add to what N1kawotg said, it gets much better when you start flying because you can drop your first year trips for some second year ones...what a nice pay raise :)

Chest, You either obviously have no idea what you're talking about or you have no motivation to make almost twice the pay for the work you do.

Gup

The system is designed that way, intentionally. It is not dishonest in the least.

No, this was designed to reward first year pilots for flying extra. Fly extra, you get more pay. To give away one's flying simply to pick up the same value/day for second year pay, I have to say is "working the system" in a way that does not seem very forthright and honest.

Making more for working more is great. This incentive was intended to reward those who flew more than their line.

The first year guys aren't dropping trips into open time! Their trips are being given away to other pilots who want to do some extra flying themselves. After that First year guys are simply picking up uncovered trips from the company via extra fly, monthly or daily open time. Everybody wins in my humble opinion.

If they are flying extra (over what their original line paid), they deserve every penny. If not, I believe that it is contrary to the intent of the contract.

Uh yea, like the company ad hears to the "intent" of the contract. it gets worked both ways. If a first year can give their stuff away and pickup for more, then more power to them. Just like someone giving away their line and sitting on the VJA list, if you can do it, good on ya.

Chest,

Then why does a rep from crew scheduling come into every new hire class to tell the new hires how to work their schedule into getting year 2 pay by giving away trips and then signing up on the extra fly list? This is advertised by the company so it is not dishonest. Plus it is still cheeper to pay a newhire at year 2 pay than anyone else year 2 or above at time and a half...think about it.

What the He!! does ad hears mean? Did you hear an advertisement?

Everyone please disregard what ChestRockwell has said about second year pay. He/she has no clue, and is making an ill-informed opinion.

It's no uncommon for (motivted) first year pilots to make in excess of $80K, and still have very good QOL.

SWAGUY,

This is a program intended to reward first year pilots who fly extra - more money for the 1st year pilot and reduces the staffing requirements for the Company. It is a wiin/win thhat epitomises what thoughtful, interested-base negotiations can produce. To those who make $80K in their first year flying extra, that is great. If you do it flying 90 trips per month, I do not see how that is right.
