Hot damn! Pretty soon those awful new uniforms will outnumber the old... 27% of the active pilots/trainees are '07 vintage. If people actually start going to mainline, the demographics of this airline will change dramatically. Although most of the 17+ year guys probably aren't going anywhere.

If 100 (BS as per management memo) upgrades are awarded next year, the upgrade will reach down to '06 hires, maybe senior '07's with the time (in end of '08, early '09). Oh, just another carrot to dangle in front of us... O, to be a junior Captain at PDT!!!!!!!!

those new uniforms are gayer than aids! they're gonna have to change their upgrade time to less than 3000 pilots if that's the case. i personally don't believe 100 upgrades next year, i don't believe anything that comes from our puppet managers!!

This is a perfect case for how the market works. You hire people with less than 300 hours hoping they'll move on before they become a headache, and just the few that sit around until they reach the 3000 hour mark are plenty for a glacial upgrade rate.

Ooops.

IF this movement really happens, it's going to be a wreck... you can't upgrade a 260 hour kid in 18 months no matter how hard you try- because the insurance isn't going to budge on 3K.

At least they have a couple of big classes coming up now. I was a september hire, yes I have more than 260hrs, and there are already 50 names behind me. I was very shocked to see that there are only 7 2006 hires left on the list...

a little off subject, but did anyone else here see or hear that the FAA will be prohibiting ANR headsets in 121 cockpits very very soon?

Can you say street Captains in the near future?

Why would insurance be a problem? AWAC and Great Lakes are able to get insurance on 1500hr captains. PDT shouldn't have a problem.

The problem would be more cost to insure the pilots for the company thats it. However we are talking about US Airways.

agreed. 3000 hr dash captains is a necessity

Why?

There have been 1500hr captains in every t-prop that has ever flown in the northeast including the Beech 99/1900, J31/41, Saab, and yes even the Dash.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying that 1500 hours of experience is the same as 3000 hours of experience; just asking why some believe it is a "necessity" when others with lesser total time have had no problems flying similar equipment into the same airports in the same weather conditions for decades.

I'll say this right now: If someone comes in off the street without any training in this plane and can pass the type ride with a newhire, after the same upgrade tutelage I'd receive, I'll be impressed.

You are making my point, exactly. Only if you knew...

Well, okay...instead of being vague why don't you educate me and everybody else on exactly what your point is?

I think he is trying to state that it comes down to experience.

People have been doing fine for decades with 1500hr captains in those aircraft/airports/weather because the sh** rarely hits the fan, so you can get away with a 1500hr guy in the left seat of a dash8 because odds state that it will all be OK.

I guess you could call it a necessity because thats the first step in the right direction to minimizing the bad things that can happen..?...

wow.. how mature and totally inappropriate

those new uniforms are gayer than aids!

well, if this is the maturity level not to mention the completely innappropriate, biggoted, and socially unacceptable comments out of a PDT FO, then I am not sure the airline is in a good position to upgrade anyone of this personal caliber to aircraft commander. The days of comments like this are over, much like the same of black, female, religious and all other forms of socially unacceptable comments.. Something tells me you have much larger problems in life than not being upgraded fast enough..
