American Airlines to Fly From Chicago to Moscow in 2008
Tuesday October 16, 12:45 pm ET
New Destination Enhances American's International Route Network

CHICAGO, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines, the world's largest airline and a founding member of the global oneworld Alliance®, will begin nonstop service from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport (DME) on June 2, 2008.

"We are pleased to offer service to Moscow, the cultural and financial capital of Russia, adding another crown jewel to our sparkling international route network," said David Cush, American's Senior Vice President - Global Sales. "From Chicago, American is, or soon will be, providing links to the world's key developing economies in Russia, China, and India, as well as established markets in Japan, Europe and Latin America.

"The Russian economy is booming and many of our nation's top 100 corporations are doing business there, so the time is right to begin serving Moscow," added Cush. "Our Chicago hub is well positioned to draw passengers and shippers from throughout the nation's heartland to travel to Moscow, providing our customers with the route network they value."

"American Airlines flights from Chicago to Moscow are a big win for Illinois travelers," said U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). "Each new international route increases competition among air carriers while consumers, businesses and tourists benefit from a decrease in ticket prices. By this time next year, these new flights will have opened up a world of travel possibilities for the entire state."

"This is truly exciting news. Moscow is an exciting destination for business as well as leisure travelers," said Jerry Roper, President of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. "Moscow is an extremely important emerging world market and a new nonstop flight from O'Hare will be invaluable."

Moscow becomes the fifth major international destination that American has begun from O'Hare since November 2005 when it launched nonstop service to Delhi, India. In April 2006, the airline added a daily nonstop flight to Shanghai, China. On December 13, American will add nonstop service to Buenos Aires, the cultural and financial center of Argentina, and in March 2009 the airline will begin flying from Chicago to Beijing, China.

American also offers as many as five daily nonstop flights during the summer season to London Heathrow, a daily flight to Frankfurt, Germany; Rome; Paris; Brussels, Belgium; and Tokyo. American also offers nonstop daily service to Manchester, England; Dublin, Ireland; Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto in Canada; and Acapulco, Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and San Jose del Cabo in Mexico. American Eagle offers nonstop service to Nassau, Bahamas, and Halifax, Canada, from O'Hare.

American plans to fly its Chicago - Moscow service six days a week with its 225-seat, two-class (Business and Coach/Economy) Boeing 767-300 aircraft, featuring 30 Next Generation Business Class seats. Eastbound flights will fly every day except Sunday. Westbound flights will operate every day except Monday.

Hhhmm. I might have to re-evaluate my AA embargo. A KORD-UUDD nonstop would make my life MUCH better.

Yup, this will make the "South American Second Family" pale in comparison.

The only thing the article didn't mention is, what destination we will be pulling out of to provide the 767? Ahh, gotta love no new aircraft orders.

Your russian mail order bride getting home sick?

Nope. Gotta get to work. I have given serious consideration to another wife in Siberia, though. Goddam the chicks there are friggin' SMOKING! Not much else to do there, either. Drinking and fornicating is about it.

I recently talked with one of our 767ER Captains who flies Moscow regularly and he said on a usual flight from Moscow back to the States (we go to JFK and ATL from SVO), there are on average 5-6 adopted babies going to the US with new parents. Crying, very very loud. That is all understandable of course, but can that interrrupt your crew rest? Probably. Bring an IPOD.

Bye Bye--General Lee

General,

What are the crew rest facilities like on the DAL's 763-ERs?

No bunks, right? Is it just a first class seat?

thx

Dedicated business elite seat with extra padding, different footrest, privacy curtains, etc. They are installing a 2-bunk crew rest module in a number of the 737-300s for some of the 4-man flights we'll be doing next year.

Pat Fabian is right (except for his 737-300 comment which really is the 767-300ERs with winglets). Not a lot of privacy on the 767, but the 777s have their own lie flat crew rest bunks above First Class. Who woulda thunk it, but we have an upper deck on the 777.

I've been doing Moscow all summer and never had any rest issues...actually one of my favorite flights because of the longer break period.

Interesting that AA will be going to UUDD and not Sheremetyevo (UUEE) where Delta serves...both seem like a hike outside of town so I'm not sure if this gives AA a leg up on the competition or not.

Bigger question is how long till AA crews figure out where the good Sweedish Meatballs are ;) (NY ER crews know what I speak of)

Yes, those Russian chicks are smokin!!!!! With flights like that, you could have a set of Russian girlfriends... Sorry for being off topic, but this is yet another reason to fly for Delta!

UUDD (or DME for 3 letter identifier) has been the choice of a lot of "Western" airlines as of late. British Airways, Emirates, Qatari, and others have switched to that airport. I don't know why Delta still goes to Shermentevo (SVO), but maybe because Aeroflot is there and they are a Skyteam member? (aren't they?) It was the first large INTL airport for Moscow, over Vukonovo and DME.

Talked with the station manager the other day...they are "rival" airports and Domodedovo has newer facilities...but SVO will have a new terminal soon. That will be nice.

The Skyteam stuff makes sense also.

Sorry about the 737 typo!

Also, I've never had any reset issues on the SVO trip...then again, I've only done it a few times. Nice to get a long break though.

Not sure about the Swedish Meatball comment....met a few Ukranians though... :)
