"Alaska, where the men are men, and the women are men too!"

Actually, the woman situation in ANC is not that bad compared to other parts of the state- and I am sure it has gotten better since I lived there back in 1999.

I'm sure it beats Wyoming all to hell . . . . "Wyoming- where men are men, women are men, and sheep are nervous".

The week-long layover in a lodge in Glacier Bay (near Juneau) was the best trip out of all of my corporate pilot trips . . . . . . . it even beat the week in Telluride, CO with 50 female bartenders from a well-known restaurant chain, but just bear-ly.

Is ANC commutable from JFK or EWR? How are crash pads or should one plan on an apartment/buying a condo? I Also assume a vehicle will be necessary, too.....

How much time do you have?

I live in ANC and commute to JFK.

NWA freighters run a direct flight but I've never used them.

Basically your best options are:

--NWA pax ANC-MSP-JFK
--CAL ANC-Houston-EWR
--AS ANC-SEA-EWR
--AA ANC-DFW?-JFK
--UAL ANC-ORD-JFK

And then there is the odd Atlas/Polar flight...when you absolutely, positively have to be there sometime later this month...

Crash pads exist in ANC. Usually you can rent a room for $300-400/mo.

One bedroom (furnished) apt might run you $800/mo.

A car is probably necessary. There's a bus system but it's not the best in the world.

Especially in January- Not very fun standing out in the freezing cold waiting on the bus- especially when it is running late!
