I never ironed a flight suit, and I'd have to argue about being home for "most" important family events. Our squadron policy during Desert Shield/Storm/etc./etc./etc. was we could be guaranteed to be home for the birth of our children or the conception. No guarantee for both.

Too bad that "girl" isn't what "she" appears to be. I have horrbile images of "Naval Aviators" with that song "The Crying Game" playing in background.

My chime

I was a USMC pilot who also did an AF tour in Herks. I can't speak for the navy even though I wear gold wings, but if a choice is to be made between the Corps and USAF, go Air Force...unless you want to be one badass ground pounder.

My Navy brothers are Gods, so are my AF brothers.

Remember that when you're 43, expecting that you stay in, you'll be living with the decisions of a 23 year-old who put you where you are. Quality of life (AF) means a lot to a person with family and kids.

Yahtzee,
You need to watch better porn!

I've seen life on both sides. They are definitely different sides of the same coin. I wouldn't trade my experiences in either or done it differently. You are definitely given more rope to hang yourself with on the naval side and your family definitely takes a back seat. But the Blue side (AF) definitely gives you the opportunity (and expects you) to concentrate more on flying. However, why use four years of your life at an academy. Go do the college thing, live and learn. Join ROTC or go to OTS/OCS. Go be a feckless college student and get it out of your system while you can. The military will teach you everything they want you to know whether you went to an academy or not.

PS-Hugh, I liked the Bank of Good Karma quote.

That wasn't porn...it was Panama.

Got to agree with Pony...go to a real school. Yes, the academies have great traditions, but you have the rest of your career to be a part of the Navy or USAF.

Ask any USAFA Cadet. About 80% will say "I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't do it again." The other 20% are incredible people or just plain freaks. ;)

Ask any Georgia grad about going back to Athens, and you'll hear "Man wish I could do it again!" ;)

Was I on the good list or the bad list? ;)

I did the interview last week. I should be back at CBM next week or as soon as they get me in the system.

P.S. Did you read that e-mail about growing a "monkey-tail" from Chuck E. Cheese? I had tears I was laughing so hard.

It looked like the good list to me.

I read about Chuck E Cheese's IFE...talked to the safety dude on duty at the time. Hilarious!!

Having flown in a Navy squadron and participating in several joint endeavors, I have nothing but deep respect and admiration for Naval Aviatiors (and Navy people in general).

In my mind, there is NO question they have a tougher job to accomplish with more personal sacrifice. I thank them for their service!

Hey, Patmack,

How's the training going.... you must have selected by now, I'm sure you are happy, where are you?
