At least he preferred Mary-Anne to Ginger. Good Choice !!!

I dont think the F/A's had the authority to open a sealed Comment Card and may have a little time off themselves. It sounds as if they were a little overzealous. Sorry. The Captain made the best decision he could at the time, I just hope it wasnt influenced a F/A with a chip on her/his shoulder.

The note was pretty comical, but I dont see it as threatening. The guys going on vacation too, account for all of that.

Please, for the love of God, do not use a word unless you know what it means. You sound like a moron, the word is LITMUS, a LITMUS test. See below

litmus test
n.
1. A test for chemical acidity or basicity using litmus paper.
2. A test that uses a single indicator to prompt a decision: "

AHHHHH yes I know I missed the TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT Now to get back to the point that sailed over your head!!!!! Ever notice when a lib hates what you say they call you a name instead of dealing with the point?????

Actually, if the guy is acting erratically and hands the F/A a sealed comment card, you better believe he/she should open it and read it. Totally the correct thing to do.

You mean like Glenn Beck??

Maybe, but try explaining why you continued a flight that the FA's emphatically warned the crew that they had a problem with a passenger and were concerned that he could jeopardize the safety of the passengers. Somehow I don't think saying ''sorry I continued the flight despite warnings from the cabin crew, I think FA's are bit nutty so I decided to continue on anyway" Now compound that if something does happen enroute like the passenger in question gets physical with someone and hurts them. Now you are liable for ignoring the warnings you got and probably in serious trouble with the FAA and the company.

Fortunately, we have some pretty high caliber Flight Attendants at Hawaiian and most are very professional and level headed. So it's highly likely if they are truly concerned, there is probably a real problem going on.

Hey Dan don't miss the point of what I am saying about F/a's in general. I am glad you have a great group at HA, I wish we all did but there is always that 10% or in some cases 20 to 50% that are crazy as hell. I would also hate to try and explain why I turned around to the Chief Pilot on the word of an over reacting melodramatic F/a. I was simply stating it would be a tough call, but not judging the actions of this crew in this situation. Cheers and tail winds to you and yours!

I hear you and it's not easy making a point without sounding like you are disagreeing. We do have a few too. As a matter of fact, supporting what you are saying, I had a scenario were one of the FA's thought the pressurization system was faulty and said "numerous" people were feeling it in their ears. I didn't realize that "numerous" included some F/A's when I said perhaps they felt a pressure bump and that the symptoms they felt might be psychosomatic. Well..... I don't think I'm telling you anything you don't know when I say that telling a FA her headache might be influenced by those around her is NOT the thing to do. Anyway, I made a show out of having the mechanic come to the airplane and check it out and as a matter fact, she actually agreed with me the next day.
But you are right, it's a very complicated factor and one with no clearcut guidelines.

Paging Dan Roman, paging Dan Roman, please meet the other lemmings over by the cliff..........

Actually, I would say the better use of the lemmings analogy would be someone reading one news article and think they know enough to judge the crews actions.
I guess my explanation of the additional considerations involved with over water flying went over your head but you should understand that a willingness to make a hard decision by a Captain is a very good trait in this business. I really don't understand why some people feel the need to criticize others so quickly rather than listen with an open mind. But thinking you have the whole story by reading one news article is foolish.

You guys should quit with the monday morning quarterbacking. If there is a potential threat, no matter how sure you may or may not be, get on the ground and figure it out. If people wanna question the captain on this then they've never been in his situation...why blow it off and hope it's just some @sshole with a big mouth? 200+ people and a $90 million airplane are a big gamble and I think he was absolutely right to do an about face.

One more thing, and this is turning into a heck of a problem:

People need to learn to show some respect for authority. The media has programmed them all to argue with crews about everything, and have them completely convinced that it's all some huge conspiracy. I'll bet the FAs would love it if they didn't have to spend all day policing carry ons, but that's their job. On that note, people should be careful what they wish for. If they didn't gate check carry ons that ridiculous pax weight of 189 we use would be out the door and the CRJ200 would turn into a 30 seat plane. Back to the guy on Hawaiin....he probably thought his bullsh!t was cute until the guys in suits showed up. I hope he can be an object lesson to all the other mouth breathers out there that wanna get cute.

Good thing it was back in the 70's when I was a kid taking one of my first flights and I asked my Mom as we boarded, "When are we going to crash?!" Imagine the crap that would cause these days!

Blame it on the rash of airplane movies in the mid to late 70's.

Very simple stuff once again! Lets target everyone.....and really target the ones that are not a threat!!

Limuss test for cabin crew.....

was he a Muslim check

turn the DAMN plane around. If not let's add some common sense to the situation....and talk to the pax run his name etc etc.....

Remember all muslims are not terrorists but ALL terrorists since 9/11 have been MUSLIM PC gonna kill more people.........but lets empty airports and turn plane around and escort planes that have drunk AMERICANS onboard but lets give terrorists AMERICANS rights and Priviliages!! idiots running the show!
FLAME SUIT READY!!!!!!come on LIBS!!!!!!

I believe you're barking up the wrong tree, but I will entertain you. So, how will you identify the passengers that are Muslim? Should there be a requirement to identify one's religion when purchasing a ticket?
