NWA's Projected Fleet

So, I got my 2008 Aerospace Source Book from Aviation Week today. It has a Major Airline Profile section with fleet break downs. For Northwest it shows there will be only 6 DC-9-30/50H at the end of 2009. It also shows 54 CRJ900 and 56 EMB175 at the end of 2009. I know the DC-9 fleet is shinking in 08 but only 6 planes in 09 is news to me. Any thoughts?

No way will NWA be able to get 54 E jets from Embraer or anyone else on the world market, even if JB gives up some options. Embraer is shamefully behind their overly ambitious delivery book as it is.

:laugh: I appreciate the topical sarcasm, but even then they won't be able to get 54. And nowhere near enough to replaxce the 9's. They better pray someone merges with them.

Bought and paid for...that is awesome.

New interiors...that is awesome.

Most reliable AC in NWAs fleet...that is awesome.

Many more years of service life....that is awesome.

New hires can bid out of them in less than 6 mos....priceless.

Sorry, After looking at the page again and doing some math, it seems it was a typo. It should read 46 DC9's not 6, 34 CR9 and 36 E175 at the end of 2009. That is a big typo to print in a world wide magazine. Now, it looks like they need to add 25 B717 and 15 Super 80's to the list for 2008.

Actually, they did very well in the 4th Q, and will do very well in 2008 & 09 with between 195-200 deliveries in each year. They built 13 175's and 22 190's in the 4th Q. With a backlog of 476 a/c (and quite a few deferred by Jetblue) and the ability to build probably 180 commercial a/c per year.....the backlog can be reduced quite quickly.

36 by the end of 2009 should be a cakewalk.
