So, any chance this could be true? Someone on the Yahoo Finance NWA message board claims they saw the memo. Why would we keep it? Yes, the route authority and slots are valuable, and maybe could be transferred to the 787s when they come(whenever that is.....). The 742s are gas guzzlers and even UPS is ditching theirs.

If this is true, are there any other surprises NWA wants to pop on us? Let me guess, could it be about the DC9s? Just a guess there....

Here is the post on Yahoo Finance---NWA message board

Report-NWA to sale Cargo Unit 21-Feb-08 10:32 am
Just read an internal memo that NWA/DAL will be selling the Cargo Unit and shutting down there ANC Pilot Base.

Yes, they can't spell "their" correctly, but it brings up a good question, what does that do to those senior pilots up THERE in ANC? What else could be shut down or parked? What happens to career expectations to those pilots that could be affected, and also DC9 pilots when there is no actual replacement for that fleet yet?

I fly NWA cargo and no...I have not received the 'memo' yet.

You might want to call your chief pilot in ANC and ask.

I didn't get the memo that we merged either...

I'm kinda hoping that we don't now. If we do not, and NWA actually sells that cargo unit (the planes are on the way out and you lost your largest customer DHL), then you may wish we did merge. I hope our respective MECs are looking into this rumor too. I stated initially that this was a rumor and gave the source.

Maybe you should call..you probably have the number...then we would all have it from a "reliable" source.

Wow, there's a good source!!

You have the ability to look at it too if you want. People on that board also bring up the fact that there was a 38 page power point presentation about a possible merger with DL/NWA, and the benefits, but the Cargo operation was never mentioned, at all. Could you tell me why that would be the case? How about who may replace DHL as the largest customer of NWA Cargo, and what will replace the 742s, as every one of your cargo competitiors are replacing their own 742s? What is your take? Also, what would you do with those cargo pilots if the unit was sold?

I'm sure the Delta MEC is really looking into this, since they haven't merged yet. I'm not employed by either party, but why does the Delta MEC need to know?

Are you serious? The NWA negotiators want the bottom 3000 pilots to be ALL DELTA pilots. If they park planes, or will park planes, don't you think our guys would want to know that? NWA could bring 13 old 742s to the table, along with 90 older DC9s, and some 787s someday when Boeing sticks to a deadline. (18 firm orders) So, they bring 18 for sure, and may lose 13 742s and up to 90 DC9s (30 for sure will be parked this year--the dash 30s). Wouldn't we want to know what we are dealing with? That is prudent.

Hey, I posted the rumor as a rumor in the title. I am not a NWA pilot, and it would be nice to get some real answers here. I think our MEC is looking into that now, and the NWA guys need to start asking some real questions and bring themselves back to reality. Yeah, they are bringing a lot of future retirements, of both old pilots AND old planes. If they don't leave at the same time, that means furloughs, and that aint fair jethro.

That is total BS...NWA negotiators did not ask for that...not even close..don't trust everything you hear.

There is a lot of movement going on behind the scenes. I am sure that it will get interesting in the next few days. I would be very surprised if the companies do not announce by the end of this week. With or with out the pilots. Heck maybe they will all walk aways, but if they do who are we going to have to deal with next. NWA provides the least exposure to massive furloughs due to the fact that there is minimal overlap.
Be careful what you wish for. I think that they are dead set on merging. If it is not with NWA then if will be someone else less desirable. Do you really think that UAL is a better fit when it comes to the pilots and job protection?

The General heard it from a "reliable" source. AKA the newspaper. General why dont you wait and see what the MEC tells you instead of being a drama queen about everything you hear/read? The media wants nothing but to stir the pot and you took it hook line and sinker.
