What is NW going to use to fly the Avro's current load? DC-9's???? Yeah, that will save them a ton in gas money. It also costs them the same to pay the three FAs on the 9 as it does to pay the Avro CA and FO. They'll be around unitl mainline pilots turn loose of their scope to save some of their retirement, and then Mesaba will replace them with a more efficient 70+ seater and more of them.

Avro's are on the Ch 11 papers for return to the lessor, read we want to pay less for the A/C.

NW owns 10 of the RJ-85's. The other 25 are leased. Its pretty hard to renogotiate the terms on aircraft you already own.

They did just pull the avro newhires off the latest revision to the next vacancy, but they are still hiring into the CRJ.

Wtf is crew planning doing at the main offices on the weekend? a saturday night? "Planning"?!?! They obviously know something. Hate to be in their shoes tomorrow morning when they get flooded with phonecalls.

Dodge,

What will you put in the place of "four engines are nice"?

CRJ is nice?

Minnie Update September 16, 2005

What Now?

The process of reorganization while in bankruptcy protection is not simple, painless, or
precise. It will be fluid, messy, and at times, abrupt. It is designed to restore the
corporation to a condition where it can operate successfully and pay its bills, so the
emphasis is on the “plan” for doing that. Although we will be considered “creditors”,
and have certain rights and privileges, the “plan” will be developed by NWA
Management. It will be approved by Judge Gropper if he thinks it will work. The plan
that Management develops will be driven by the amount of money they can scare up, and
the equity terms they can negotiate with the secured creditors. It will also be controlled
by the environment.

We can expect some form of negotiations to begin in the near future regarding our
contract. The good news is that the MEC has a clear picture of the priorities you have set,
and a strategy for protecting as many of them as possible. The bad news is that the level
of control we would normally have in “standard” contract negotiations has been lost.

Fleet Stuff

Management plans to park 13 aircraft quickly. The aircraft identified are:

1 B747-200 Ship 6636, one of the 353-seat pax Whales.

1 DC-10 Ship 1211, the oldest -30.

6 B757-200 Ships 5522, 5524, 5525, 5527, 5528, 5529.

1 A320 Ship 3202 , the second-oldest Airbus at NWA.

4 DC-9-30 Ships 9924, 9983, 9985, 9986
In addition, Management has designated 102 other aircraft for potential parking. No
specific timeline has been set. Here is the breakdown:

11 B747-200 The remainder of the pax “classic” fleet.

7 DC-10 About one-third of the remaining fleet.

22 B757-200 A bunch!

20 A320

6 A319

31 Bae-146 Avro’s flown by Mesaba, but owned by NWA.
The fleet plan will be driven by two primary factors: The financing/lease status of the
aircraft, and the marketing plan. Fuel price will also be a consideration.

Furloughs

Management has informed ALPA that it will reduce mainline block hours by 13%.
Management said the reduced flying levels will result in 400 pilot furloughs over the next
eight months, in addition to the approximately 500 pilots currently on furlough. The first
70 pilots will soon receive notice for layoff which will be effective November 1st. This
group consists of 59 “active” pilots, and another 11 who are currently inactive (on a
Leave Of Absence or Military Leave). Another 150 pilots are expected to be furloughed
January 1st, with approximately 20 of those being pilots currently inactive. 180 pilots

are tentatively scheduled for furlough in the April-May timeframe. Management has
also indicated that these pilots will receive their contractual furlough pay. The pay table
can be found in Section 23.F.2 of the contract. The Membership Committee will be
providing more information as we get details from Management.

Communications

If you want to know what is going on at any given time, we recommend you do the
following:

Call the Code-A-Phone. It will contain any breaking news on large issues. You
might want to set up (800) 242-ALPA in your cell phone speed-dial.

Sign-up for e-mail delivery of MEC communications. You’ll receive Ziplines and
Negotiations information (“Across The Table” etc) sooner. You can sign up on
either the National website (alpa.org) or the MEC website (nwaalpa.org/pilots).

Call or e-mail us! Instead of just reading about what is going on, it allows you to
give us your feedback.
If you are more interested in making your heart skip, or burning a large hole in your
stomach lining, then we recommend you do the following:

Listen to rumors...especially the stuff coming from “a guy I talked to in the
jumpseat”, or the Mother of All Petrie Dishes: NATCO.

Start your own rumors! (Special credit given for rumors that include any of the
following terms: “merger”, “sell-off”, “Lorenzo”, or “liquidation”.)

Accept everything you read or hear in the media as gospel. Any news agency that
identifies our company as “Northwestern Airlines” (props to CBS and Fox) is
obviously dialed directly into the decision makers!
Elections

If you believe you are eligible to vote in the Council 1 elections and have not received a
nominating ballot, please call ALPA Membership Services ASAP as (888) FLY ALPA
Ext. 4164.

The number of candidates is multiplying. A few of them have not contacted us to
indicate their willingness to serve, if elected. The Chairman is required to determine each
candidate’s willingness to serve at the time of the nominating meeting (October 10th...be
there!), so we recommend that any pilot seeking nomination contact one of us.

Being A Pilot

In almost every CVR audio that’s been played in the media, the public has come to
presume that pilots possess the ability to ignore extreme distractions (up to, and including
their own demise) and focus on the task-at-hand...namely, reciting checklists, performing
procedures, encouraging each other, and speaking on the radio in calm, FM-radio
announcer voices. We pride ourselves on it. We’re cool professionals with chiseled
good-looks, abundant self-confidence, and a MacGyver-esque ability to remain stoic
when the chips are down. We’re studs! (Yes...females too)

In reality, it’s not true. We’re actually just like everybody else...real live humans with
egos, ids, and emotions. If you cut us, we will bleed. [Note: Trust with me on this!
Don’t try this at home!]

ALPA learned a valuable lesson in pilot mental health after 9/11. We also picked-up
some sobering intel from our colleagues at USAirways and United following their trips
into bankruptcy. A significant number of us will not be able to handle the transition into
this period of uncertainty and disappointment. As a result, the MEC is developing a
program to help pilots get through this stressful time. The program will consist of peers
from the Pro Stan, Membership, Aeromedical, and CIRP Committees, as well as mental
health professionals. The goal of the program will be to provide assistance to any of our
brothers and sisters having trouble coping.

You will be receiving information on the program soon. In the meantime, we urge you to
look out for each other. Patience, empathy, and a sense of humor are powerful tools. We
encourage you to use them. If you feel you or any of your fellow pilots are not handling
the stress well, contact us ASAP!

Jetflier-

Just curious... Do you guys have a non-disclosure statement attached to your MEC updates??? Just since it looks as if the whole thing is front and center for the world....
