That is correct....

Because we had a huge fleet of 8 a/c. Not too efficient.

.....NWA and TWA had been in talks to trade the 8 NWA MD80s for some of the TWA DC9-50s. TWA had around 20 copies of the DC9-50s. NWA and TWA never worked out the terms.

Side note: Allegiant Air bought and operated 3 of the former TWA DC9-50s for a couple of years before trading them in on the MD80s.

JAMBRO: Saludos y Feliz Navidad!

Ciao contigo, Pana!

Ok, I am going to hurl what is possibly the worst insult on FI:

You all sound like you belong on Airliners.net. You guys are pissing and moaning like a bunch of planespottin', flight sim playin', virtual airline belongin' wannabees.

There, I said it...

OK,

Let me ask you this,...if your gonna be broadsided by an F150,...would you rather be in a Kia Rio or a 1973 Chevy Impala ? (nuf said) ?

The DC9's are quality built birds by Ol'man Douglass. Very thick aluminum, overdesigned by engineers with sliderules and pocket protectors. A very simple design, and built tough.

Some Pass do know that their on an older bird, some even stick their head in the cockpit to check the airworthiness certif displayed on the entry door wall.

The oldest '9's I see are about 1967 and the newest, are the -50 with a 1982 date of manuf.

We can still get them up to .82 cruise and fl350.
nevermind

Hi!

I recently flew on of NWA's old -9s. It flew great, and it looks really nice since we fixed it up, inside and out.

That being said, I think the Wright Brothers original instrumentation was in the cockpit (except for the color moving map and GPS, of course-Also: we took the ACARS out).

cliff,

What airline do you fly for ?

Hi!

USA Jet.

We have 4 PAX -9s, two -10s and two -30s. The NWA bird was our last. We mostly do NCAA teams and NASCAR. Our next PAX plane will be a 737, probably a -300 or -400. Their is an outside chance that we may get an MD-XX first, but probably not.

We also (mostly) fly freighter -9s and freighter Falcon 20s, and we (mostly) fly out of YIP as our base.

Cliff,

Do you usually fly the night stuff or the pax stuff? Can you give me an example of your last pax trip or night trip?

Hi!

If U want a bunch of info, PM me with your email.

My last PAX trip was 6 days. We flew one leg/day at about 6 PM. Stayed in a different hotel each night. Day one we were business jetted (on our Falcon 20) to the plane. Day 6 we did a 91 leg home after dropping off Wake Forest.

My last freight trip was YIP-GSP pickup, drop at YIP. We then were on "Hot Crew"-went to go eat, and then flew YIP-TOL pickup-drop at West Palm Beach-91 to YIP. We started about 0900? and ended about 2300.

The freight trips are random-day/night/trip length/legs, etc. The PAX trips are normally daytime only-# of legs trip lengths vary.

That explains that! I was talking with some of their pilots... and heard the good and the bad. Hopefully your friend enjoys it. I flew on them for the first time last month. Not bad...
