NWA- ANC base

I hear that some new hires are getting 747 panel, out of ANC, right off the bat. Does anyone know if NWA pays for relocation like UPS does? If they do, will they pay round trip with time in base? Thanks -batfish

Not positive, but I don't think they pay relocation, unless a base closes or something along those lines.

The bright side is you can bid out of ANC as quickly as you can hold something else. . . . . Provided hiring continues at the projected pace

It's a lot of work to learn the panel of a 747, just to bid out of it as soon as possible to learn a new airplane.
Arghh. And NWA doesn't want to be considered "interview practice?" Make the job offer competitive!

Here's the deal:

Yes, NWA will pay for your move to ANC, even as a new hire. Here is the contract reference:

Section 6:

A pilot will be entitled to a move at company expense under any of the following circumstances:

Paragraph A.7:

Move of a new hire pilot who, upon completion of his initial training, is assigned or awarded a permanent position in the ANC or HNL base, provided that the pilot actually moves to the location (“location” means Alaska or Hawaii) of his permanent position.

Note that there is no longer a HNL base.

That contract section goes on to specify exact details of what is paid for. Includes free F2 (first class) travel for you and family and shipping of vehicles subject to $ limits.

BTW, I take that contract language to mean that you can move to any location in Alaska and get the paid move. (Move to Juneau and commute to ANC?) You'd want to verify that though.

Don't be too humble.....I was surprised myself about the new hire clause on the paid move. Hadn't looked at that part of the 'ol contract in a long time.

NWA doesn't sound too competitive when they are hiring at 3,500 hours with 150 turbine PIC and no recs needed. I hear instructordude is about to bid off the 747 as he's bored with it.
