We were told Boeing originally put them on the yokes of earlier other model Boeings for an Altitude reminder (i.e. 240 or 370 etc). They supposedly left them on the yokes even after true Altitude Alerters were installed.

Now they are used for Flight Numbers, Fuel Loads, Minimun Fuel for dispatch, Gross weight, and about 1,000,000 other things that only Pilots would ever think up.

Its for us old farts to help remember the flight number. Only problem is now there adding a forth digit onto our flights! :D

Ferlo,

Sometimes when I'm really bored I use the "Memory Device" to record, in millions, what our full year profit was.

Clicker on yoke.

Typically used as a memory device when operations calls us in flight to give us the "Pick 3" winning numbers. Boeing is considering a larger version for more traditional lottery games (five digits). A customer option will include a red "number clicker" for the Powerball winning number.

regards,

Juan
