Many professional flying organizations have had rogue pilots like this. A few organizations that come to mind: USN, USAF, USMC, USA and the USCG. No intention of picking on the DOD, however, these types of organizations and flying promotes rogue flying: not in transport of flying public, macho-ism condoned and a very small crew (one or two). This of course fits this Pinnacle accident.
The Pinnacle pilot group will take this on the chin but also know that the PCL pilots have learned and have grown since this accident. And are more professional because of it.
As far as ALPA... The ALPA Safety and Engineering Dept is very respected in the safety halls of US Aviation. In addition, if ALPA didn't defend the abscent, who would? It would be 70 years ago all over again with the rubber stamp committee doing what they do best: 100% Pilot error.
ALPA accepts the actions of these two as violations of the ALPA Code of Ethics and poor airmanship. But we cannot ignore what else is to be learned here by allowing others who are only intrested in protecting thier own by trying to dump the entire blame onto two rogues.
