I've been irked by a trend I've seen on these boards in which an individual asks a question reqarding Company A and respondants (usually, but not always, from Company A) tell the person if they had to ask the question, then they shouldn't bother applying/aren't right for the job/belong elsewhere.
If someone is deciding on a career move, I would hope they would have all of their questions answered, no matter how silly/naive/uninformed, before proceeding. My wife and I certainly asked a lot of detailed questions about one another before we decided to spend the rest of our lives together.
If, for example, I was to start a thread asking how often SWA pilots fly more than four legs per day and I got responses telling me that I'm obviously not SWA material just for asking the question, I would think that would be rather offputting. C'mon people, it's not like someone's saying, "Is the four leg thing true? 'Cus I could never work any job that requires more than two!" Cut people some slack. I know you need a thick skin around here but often times it's the newbies who ask these types of questions and we don't want to scare them off before their hide thickens into an armor of General Lee/Ty Webb proportions...

3rd. Prior due diligence is the primary trait of a serious applicant. IMHO, such applicants also make the most satisfied employees, or at least the least disappointed.

By the way, it's not a hide, so much as a crust . . . .

Arrrrgh, Matey!

Seriously, better to know what you're getting in to, rather than be dissatisfied later . . . and it goes both ways. I would hate to be paired with someone who was very unhappy, because they thought the job would be different than it is.

My apologies for not having been on the board for awhile but your post caught my attention.

There was a time when nearly all posts on this board were answered with reasoned thought & without too much emotion (you're still dealing with pilots so there is obviously some) but as you stated, newbies may have been driven off by the negative tone contained in replies to rather innocent sounding questions. You mentioned SWA in particularly.

If there are specific questions about SWA that have been responded by others with this type of tone then my apologies. I believe SWA promotes an environment that is positive & encouraging which is contrary to the experience you have had with persons either from SWA or posing as SWA employees. I hope it is the latter & not the former.

I will tell you there are many on this board who do work at SWA who will answer ANY question you have with a judgemental tone so feel free to ask those of me or others on here. PM's are OK also but obviously threads allow for everyone to learn. While I have no way of knowing for sure I would like to think if folks have taken a negative tone with you they aren't from the SWA community. Again my apologies if they are. Anonymous boards are hard to truly assess a person's true employer after all. Good luck in your pursuit of your aviation goals & ask away on any issue related to SWA.

cheers,

LOL this original post reminded me when I was browsing this 911 forum where a guy was hired and went through Secret Service training waiting for his orders to show up on his post I think in DC. Then he made the mistake of asking on the forum what kind of "G rides" (take home vehicles) the agents get... about 4-5 posts later people (uncluding some actual federal agents) were throwing things at him like: "the job is nothing like the movies, driving with sirens and shooting" and "what does it matter to you? if you don't like it you won't do the job?" etc...

lots of unhappy people out there...
