no 4 year degree.....deal breaker or not?

I know here at DAL 3.0 in a Bachelor's degree is generally their cut off. They have hired guys with GPA's in the sub three range but with good reason.

Guess I'm not good enough to work at Delta since my GPA was only a 2.7. Damn shoulda worried more about school then learning to fly at the same time.

I think you missed the point. It is a threshold for them. I know ppl that are here from the last round below that, but they came highly recommended etc.

I dont have a 4 year degree and im wondering if that would be a deal breaker? I have the equivalent of a 2 year degree in aviation.

I tick the boxes of most airlines except the ones that ask for. Is it an important thing? Is it for insurance? What is the purpose of this requirement? Opinions?

In this economy, without a BA/BS, with all the pilots out there on the market, you are on a sinking lifeboat in the North Atlantic. Fair or unfair, it is what it is and it is a strike against you. Plus, if things go south in aviation, be it the economy, your health, or whatever, you have something to fall back on. Does a degree make the man? Absolutely not. Will not having a degree keep you from getting a pilot job? It's not absoulte, but it's close....

Really? Apply and see. It is what I was told in 2000 and again in 2007 when they were hiring. They also like post grad work, but of course it is not required. It just helps your app float to the top.

I a high skool gradutate,make about 55 a year flying freight and try to help the guys I know with 4 year degrees find a job.

55K? Wow.

Lucky for them, their ability to check a box on some application somewhere, sometime in the future, will allow them to easily break that glass ceiling.

My family pushed me to get a Bachelors Degree" in Mass Communications with a Marketing Track. HOWEVER, when I graduated from college, I went to Marketing firms (small, medium, and large), to get an entry level position, and they wouldn't hire me because I didn't have any experience. My friend is in the IT field making avery good living and he never set foot on a college campus or in a college classroom his entire life. It depends on your individual situation. To some people, a college education is a required and viable career move. On the other hand, it's a waste of time.

That is why it is wise to an internship or two while getting your degree.

Internships very rarely do any good these day's. Free work to the employer basically even though most will say it's not. So many colleagues of mine went through aviation internships and all are in the same place as they were before.

They can take a lot of things from you in life, but an education you will always keep.

Regionals do not require a 4 year degree but like someone said before, many majors do. If you are in it for the regional career and maybe get lucky and get on at a major (NWA did allow it but they are gone) then do not get the 4 yar degree. If your goal is a major-by all means take the effort and get one.

I agree. Some of the dumbest people I come in contact with are college educated. Just look at our President. Everyone said he is so bright and intelligent. Look what he is doing to our country. Pilots need to know how to fly.
