A friend of mine at NJ had a nosegear failure in the Ultra a few years back. Not that this is common, but it has happened before (the CE500 series is notorious for brake and gear problems). As to going off the runway, well who knows. Controllability goes out the window without that front wheel.

If I were at the controls when my nose wheel fails, max brake, max t/r, hit the fire switches as I stop and blow both extinguisher bottles - and get the hell out! Who cares if the t/r's stay out. By the way they are held open by hydrolic pressure which is only avail while the engine is running, but requires hyd pressure to stow as well. If the fire switch is pressed prior to fully stowed, they will stay deployed (but not locked).

Did the nose gear shear off, or just fold into the bay?
