I'm not the least bit suprised. I received the same email, but at least Nike is decent enough to take the time to let you know either way. Most companies don't bother.

Just to be absolutely correct on this, Joseph E. Seagram & Sons flight department dates back to the 60's. Gulfstream were indeed the mainstay of the fleet, although when hydraulic pumps started failing on a regular basis on the G-5's, Edgar Bronfman (Senior) delegated the 2 5's be sold immediately, he was sick and tired of the breakdowns. One of the 5's was sent (hidden) to BUR, serving Universal Studios out there (owned by JES at the time), and a Global was ordered for the HPN operation. Delivery of this aircraft was accelerated due to Bombardier's chairman having a seat on the JES Board. A new G4 was also ordered at the time.

When Vivendi Universal was born, after JES was merged with the French companu Vivendi, the fleet consisted of the Global (used by Edgar Sr), the new G4 (used by Edgar Jr), and an older G4 used by Charles (Edgar Sr's brother). There was also a S-76C chopper. Vivendi also owned Aero Services at Paris Le Bourget, a management company operating 12 or 13 Falcon types, including a 900EX used by Jean Marie Messier, the eventual chairman of VU, as well as owner of a large hangar and handling company at LBG.

It was actually Messier who basically brought VU to near downfall, NOT Edgar Jr, by expanding VU to the point of absurdity. Believe he actually ended up spending some "quality" time in French jail.

Within about 24 months of Messier taking over, the HPN & BUR flight departments were slowly but surely killed off, and the hangar at HPN was eventually sold to NetJets, with the Bronfman elders (Edgar Sr & Charles) buying NetJets shares for their flying needs. Bronfman Junior tried unsuccessfully to buy out Universal, and eventually settled by buying (with partners) Warner Music Group. He presently charters or flies commercially for his travel requirements.


As far as the Broffmans: they are NetJets customers
It was truly amazing to see Edgar Jr killed what I thought was un killable. The Brofmans owned Seagrams and all of the various liquors that were associated with the name. They also owned Tropicana and all of the juices/mixes. A license to print money.
On top of that they were the largest shareholders in Dupont. At one point they had 2 GV's, a Global and a helicopter.
Edgar Jr wipped it all out with his desire to go Hollywood.[/quote]

Four G-5's were indeed ordered. C/n 507, 514, 521, and 535. 507 & 521 were sold prior to delivery (at a handsome profit), the second two were delivered to Joseph E. Seagram & Sons and went into service at HPN and BUR.

If memory serves me, I think Seagrams had dibs on the first GV delivery back 97. They either traded/sold the spot which eventually went to Mr. Annenberg (Philanthropist/TV Guide) out of KILG. (SN 507)
