No. The Midwest side is going from 22 down to 11 aircraft. However, no one expects Midwest to survive through the year.Didn't someone say they're going to stop the Midwest flying resulting in job losses?
I think there is still a shortage of pilots and age 65 has a lot to do with these furloughs as much as oil. I don't think PFT will come back, I would bet that a lot of folks will leave the aviation industry. If I had to venture a guess, from my limited inside knowledge I'd say no new classes until spring.
Oh, and here's a thought to ponder... Being that the airlines are in such bad shape financially, and looking at every way possible to cut costs. Now add to the mix potentially thousands of unemployed pilots looking for work. When and If the airlines (more specifically the regional types) start hiring again I wonder if we are going to see a revival of PFT (Pay-for-Training), Unpaid new hire training, etc. all over again. I hope not!

New carpet was installed ON the SkyWest Flight Control floor this past week. Some clouds were spotted around SGU last night and the roof on SkyWest HDQ got wet, really wet. Also, a dispatch newhire class started on Monday.
Anything else new, Walter?
Is that the type of news that would be delivered in the rear?Better get that news OFF Skywest, it might be hurting them! I hope it's not heavy news!

New aircraft orders (18 -700's United, 4- 900's Delta) start in this novermber, and continue through next year. So we will be adding 22 aircraft to our fleet.
According to the Skywest Press Release dated 10/12/07 the 18 UAL 700's are replacements for 23 UAL E120's and the 4 Delta 900's are replacements for 4 Delta 200's. That is actually a net loss of 5 airframes. So I don't think these orders are going absorb anything.
