I was told that they reported trouble at 410 and tried to divert to Johnson & when being handed over from KC to app after already declaring an emergency is when it happened...but I imagine most information we will hear for right now, especially from the news agencies, will be inaccurate or 3rd person....

god rest their souls

I really don't post here anymore, but this is the kind of thing for which I would make an exception. My thoughts and prayers go with the crew and their respective families.

Peace.

Plane Goes Down In Jefferson City Neighborhood

Authorities Say Plane Apparently Experienced Engine Problems

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Two pilots died when their plane crashed in a residential area of Missouri's capital late Thursday night, officials from their airline said Friday. No passengers were aboard the regional jet.

"I am greatly saddened by the loss of our crew," said Philip Trenary, chief executive of Pinnacle Airlines. "My prayers and the prayers of all Pinnacle people are with their family and loved ones."

The airline did not identify the pilots, pending the notification of their families.

At a morning news conference, police in Jefferson City said they had no indication that any residents were injured or killed in the crash of the CRJ2, a two-engine regional jet that seats up to 50 people.

The plane was operated by Memphis-based Pinnacle, a regional carrier affiliated with Northwest Airlines, Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch said. Police Capt. Michael Smith said some witnesses reported having seen the plane on fire shortly before it crashed.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived at the scene Friday morning, and already had possession of the plane's flight data recorder.

Jason Turner, a spokesman for the Jefferson City Fire Department, said the plane appeared to have crashed into "a garage of some type," which was destroyed, about two miles from the city's airport. The rear of a neighboring house also caught on fire.

The plane left Little Rock, Ark., at 9:21 p.m. Thursday and was headed to Minneapolis when it crashed at 10:30 p.m., Pinnacle said.

Smith said the plane was apparently experiencing engine problems when it went down. The original call from the plane reporting trouble with both of its engines came into the Springfield air traffic control tower, which relayed the message to authorities in Jefferson City.

"One aircraft engine was along the road. There was some debris in a tree and a burned area," Smith said. "You could still smell the fuel."

Fire and emergency personnel were sent to the airport to prepare for a problematic landing, but before they reached the air field they received reports that the plane had crashed, Turner said.

Friday morning, police tape still surrounded the crash site. A large chunk of the plane's charred and twisted tail and a wing rested between two houses.

Police evacuated a roughly three-block area near the crash site for about an hour Thursday night. The Red Cross set up a shelter for evacuees, but no one used it, volunteer Don Otto said.

John Baysinger told the News Tribune in Jefferson City the plane crashed in his back yard.

"When I looked outside the window, the whole back of my house was on fire," he said.

Lesley Ammikus was sitting on the deck of her apartment when the plane approached her neighborhood.

"I saw it right at the trees. I thought, 'That's way too loud and too low,' and it just hit," Ammikus said. "It went boom when it hit."

Amanda Clemons, 24, said she heard the plane crash and could see the site from her Jefferson City apartment.

"I felt the apartment shake. I thought it was thunder at first, and then maybe an earthquake," Clemons said.

Probably not new news to anyone but thought I would add more of a local story. My prayers are with everyone involved. What an awful dayfor aviation.

No. One crashed in Canada back in the 90s. Low time FO under imc mins crashed off the side of the runway. No deaths if I remember correctly.

As for the 9E accident
God bless the loved ones of these departed friends.

And the press is getting desperate for speculation from pilots especially pinnacle guys. I have received a phone call already from the memphis paper. So please regardless of who you work for please to do not make any comments to the press if confronted by the media. And please for the time being DO NOT post any of your speculations because this can hinder the investigation more than you think.
Again The families and loved ones are in my prayers

The captain was one of my best friends and one of the best pilots out there. Please pray for his wife, who is expecting their 3rd child in December.
That's just heartbreaking. Sorry about the loss of your friend. Our prayers are with her....

The flight was operated with a Canadair Regional Jet. This aircraft has a capacity of 50 passengers, two pilots and one flight attendant. The aircraft operating this specific flight was delivered to Pinnacle on May 18, 2000, and was new at the time of delivery. The aircraft had flown 10,161 hours and had been inspected in accord with FAA regulations and manufacturer specifications. The major inspections revealed no major findings.
I remember taking pitures of this one at the hangar when it was first delivered--it was also my first command in 2000. Very sad.

I only met Jesse once; very nice, very likable fellow. Best wishes to their families.

Does anyone know the names of the crewmembers? I know many pilots that fly for 9E but I haven't been able to track any of them down.

According to the latest press release:

The pilots were Captain Jesse Rhodes and First Officer Richard Peter Cesarz. Captain Rhodes joined Pinnacle in February 2003. Previously, he had been a Captain at another regional airline and had accumulated over 6,700 flight hours. First Officer Cesarz joined Pinnacle in June 2004.

Godspeed,

I was pretty good friends with the FO Peter... we both obtained our ratings when we went to Gulfstream when the flight school was still open...god rest his soul.

It's incidents like this or the Charlotte crash that remind me when it comes to regional airline accidents, it could have been any of us. Who knows what minor things make the difference between a scary incident and a flight you never walk away from.

Pinnacle pilots, on behalf of all your regional brothers and sisters, please accept our deepest sympathies. We may "compete" with you at times, but now we mourn the loss of two of your own... hell, OUR own... right there with you.

God bless their souls, and God be with their co-workers, families, and friends during this most difficult time.

A very sad day indeed for us all. :(

On behalf of the pilots at Independence Air I would like to offer our prayers to the pilots and the families left behind.

Fly Safely

Mike

I flew this plane day before yesterday. Sent a shiver up my spine.

May God be with them and their families.

Are any groups setting up any support facilities for their families?

I knew Jesse as well. Instructed with him. What a fun guy to be in the same room with. I don't ever remember seeing him in a bad mood.

If anyone learns of funeral arrengments, please either post here or PM me with the info. Thanks.

Jesse, Such a funny guy and a pleasure to be around. I went to College with him and saw him in the instructor bay all the time. About 8 months ago we both jumpseated out of MEM to DTW and we sat there and laughed the whole way up to DTW. Great guy, put a smile on everyones face and its a shame that someone like this is gone. Will be missed by everyone.

Like everyone else has said, may God rest their souls and may He bless their families and friends.

On Avsig it is now being described as a maintenance ferry flight for a previous rejected take off. Not good if so.

My wife and I are interested in providing some financial assistance to the crew's families. Will someone please post that information when it becomes available.

My most sincere condolences to the crew's families and the entire Pinnacle family.

Jesse was a great guy. Haven't heard from him in a long time. So sorry to hear about him this way. God bless'em both and their families!

Sure will be nice to find out how and why this happened!

Pinnacle RJ - Our thoughts are with you.

Our thoughts are with the families of the Captain and First Officer of the Pinnacle RJ. Our company (Mesa/Air Midwest) lost a Beechcraft 1900 last year in Charlotte. It was very difficult losing crewmembers who were part of our family & we still feel the loss to this day. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the crewmembers affected, as well as all of our brothers over at Pinnacle who lost friends and colleagues today.

P.S. If there are any details regarding memorial plans, etc., please post on this site......we would all like to attend.

My close friend works for Pinnacle. I called him as soon as I heard.

How sad for all of us.

Everybody please be careful out there.
