The "magic 100-seater" will be flown by the outfit that can do it most efficiently. One could argue that "the contract says." I don't place much value in them anymore. Seems both CEOs and pilots (USAPA) will try anything to break a promise.
In the end, economics will win out over rhetoric, false security and wishful thinking.
Ummmmmm, no. Anything over 76 seats will be flown by mainline, via the contract. 76 seaters are capped at a particular number, along with 70 seaters. These days 50 seaters can't cover gas prices, which means 70 and 76 seaters will cover for them, and 88 717s will fill in for 76 seaters. That magical "100 seater" was filled perfectly by the 717, at a discount price and paid for by SWA ($100 million refurb). That plan was executed well, and will lead to many newhires.
