Doing an informal survey...how many of you guys have had new lowered mandated cost indexes and lowered speeds due to increasing fuel costs in the last year or so? I've been hearing ATC ask some flights to increase to 280kt indicated and sometimes the response has been "We'd rather not if possible, we're flying an economy profile".

We fly at CIs between 6 and 8, results in no-wind cruise speeds around .76 in the high thirties. Climb at 280 plus, Descent is usually .76/250kt.

We happily accelerate for ATC. If you're assigned 280, we just do it. Arguing will get you 250, but turned off course and has completely defeated the purpose.

We used to fly all kinds of different Cost Indexes, usually 50 or 70; but since we changed software I haven't seen anything but CI-35.

I'm not sure if this is because of the price of oil or the software we now use. My guess is its a little of both.

Comair has been flying new profiles since bankruptcy to save on fuel costs. I hear that we save over one million dollars a month doing this based on fuel prices about one year ago. Not uncommon for us to fly super slow, just depends on our headwind or tailwind.

The new profile also has us staying at altitude as long as possible with a space shuttle descent.

14 in the 717, just changed from 18.

We are around CI 3 to 5. Descents are around 243kts (give or take a few). This is for GUM. I don't know about the mainland.

Paid by the minute... if the company wants slow- they'll get slow...
