So they're replacing higher paying airplanes with lower paying airplanes. With the exception being the A320. The numbers you've stated above shows 60 - 70% of the movement towards lower paying equipment.

Is that correct ?

I would say your summary is fairly accurate. It really comes down to how many 75/76 aircraft actually get parked.

Think about it just on a manpower issue also.....

We are fat on some wide bodies. It is cheaper to force everybody down to lower paying narrowbody equipment and hand out green slips when needed and occasionally call up some AEs to larger planes if things get critical. Now we DO have a one year look back for the manning formula but tell that to a guy who is stuck on a narrow body due to the lack of AEs and the freeze who watches GSs fly out for a wide body above him.

Don't blame me....I voted no.

That is correct for this bid. When retirements start, those guys will be mainly widebody guys, which will create tremendous upward movement, but we have to get there first. Right now a lot of narrowbodies will be entering the fleet, hence more narrowbody spots on the AE. The pay difference for the 739 and the 757/767 DOM is not much difference, maybe $3-4 per hour, but it is a decrease.

Bill Lumberg brought up a point about being fat on widebody pilots. Certain fleets are going through modifications on their interiors. The 744 and 765 (767-400) already did theirs, the 7ER is still ongoing, and the A330 is just starting. When that is all done in maybe 1 year, manning will increase again on the widebodies.

Bye Bye---General Lee
