In your example you made it sound like you allowed the mission to push you into taking a unsafe approach to the mission planning and execution? Is that the norm in the fractional world? If you have dispatchers helping you, why would they not allow you more time to execute that mission after landing...ie, time to refuel, check weather, file, brief packs, let the paxs know the situation and they may be delayed because of it, ect? If I ever felt rushed to the point of being unsafe, I would slow back and reconsider the potential end result.

The problem with most forums is the difficulty of communicating effectively. In an effort to improve my own abilities to this end: What exactly was unsafe about my approach to mission planning or execution?

If the super bases are places where airplanes often end up and they can crew swap there, then that would reduce the number of airline tickets they have to buy.

Also, buying tickets to some of the bigger airports is often cheaper than buying tickets to nearby smaller airports. For example a ticket into Charlotte NC or IAD is probably cheaper than a ticket to Roanoke or GSO.

I could be wrong, but I think it makes sense. It's too bad though they are doing this. I'd wrather work somewhere that gave me more options.

I remember from being based at CVG a couple of years ago that tickets from smaller airports such as DAY LEX or IIU would often be cheaper than tickets starting in CVG. People would drive an hour to get the cheaper rate on a connecting flight.

Also, think about how much jet fuel costs relative to the cheap airline tickets that the fractionals buy. For fractional guys, when you check in for an airline flight, print out the receipt from the eticket kiosk. They really do not spend a lot of money normally.

Airline tickets are just the cost of doing business. We waste thousands a day on other things so saving 50 bucks on an airline ticket is just not a big deal. They like these big bases not just to swap but all these places have early am flights to a lot of places and a lot of late flights to get pilots out on the road earlier and back home later before they have to pay them OT. I know the GSO guys and SMF guys have to connect alot so if they are not on a plane by 2 or 3 pm often times they will be getting OT. I think NJ realized we are gonna have to airline guys, so why not open up any airport with decent airline service. Crazy logical thinking!!!!!!

Changing the subject----for you CS guys---whats the rumor mill saying about the PM (or whatever their called these days) that just recently got fired? I was given the scoop--but curious what everyone else is saying. Sounds to me like typical mgmt problems as they have always had--and I dont mean the guy that was fired.

I don't think its appropriate to speculate about such an internal situation on a very public message board. Discussions about the subject are taking place and are better reserved for the union board. Anything posted by anyone besides the parties involved would be nothing but rumor. The individual involved is a very respected man and I believe it is in good faith to extend that respect to not discuss his personal matters in this forum without his consent.

Skylawyer,

Good advice, I couldn't agree more.
