PHX will be like LAX is for American and be super-senior any opening will be filled by senior folks from back east. Upward movement will be virtually nil & if you bid out or are displaced good luck getting back in.

Why wouldn't displaced pilots have right of first return?

If you are displaced then presumably that's cause the base is shrinking to get back in there has to be an opening - someone else has to leave.

Well hopefully i can hold PHX. Maybe in 10 years, with the attrition and the fact that what little growth there will be, will be in Asia, I can get to LAX. Maybe it's just best to start over with Delta or Alaska. Think i'll just wait and see.

That's how it works. If the number 1 guy retires you come back before anyone else can move in. Once everyone is back in their pre-displacement position, then new folks can move in as their seniority will allow.

Now if you chase your captain seat by bidding the next available base where you can hold it, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

How many years has AA had a LAX base and they have had every opportunity to grow it, but they haven't. Considering the exponential cost increases in building LAX, I think PHX is pretty safe as-is. At least as safe as PHL.

We don't quite have the experience in abandoning hubs to Southwest as the old USAir. Is it true there is a Southwest 737 christened The Spirit of Ed Colodny? It can get out of BWI, MCO, FLL, LAX and MCI faster than any other aircraft!
