And, "how long is the final", always loved that one. Whatya gonna do, make a PA below 10K when you're entering downwind? :eek:

I ask this question because I want to know how to configure. The 737 has flap speed restrictions and isn't as easy to bring down as other jets. If they want a short approach you are going to need the gear right now. Throw the gear early when final is stretching out to 20 miles and you are adding a lot of power later and wasting fuel.

That said, 25 years of doing this and I usually make those amateur mistakes at least once a flight... oddly, when I'm flying outside the US I get much more serious and go pure ICAO Radiotelephony.

Recent Bogota trip I made my last 2 transmissions with approach en espanol. I don't speak Spanish, but my Spanish is not much worse than their English.
 
When number one for the runway... "In sequence". In sequence behind what?

When number 3 for the runway "in sequence" what exactly do you expect ATC to do with that information?
