The vesting period gives you 20% of the company's match for each year of service after year one. So if you left in year 5 (4yrs x 20%) you would be 80% vested, so that much of the company's match would leave with you.

ULTRA... you forgot ya gotta wait a yr before ya start.. THAT puts u into 7 yrs .

Now ya only gotta wait 3 months........ still puts u at 7 yrs......

I am reading the "Open Enrollment 2007" sheet and at the bottom it has the vesting skd.

Completed yrs of service Percentage
6 100

Work it backwards at 20% per yr for the complete skd. At the end of yr one you are 0% vested.

Or, I think you might be able to contribute to a traditional IRA and roll it into your 401K when you get it.

Unable to roll an IRA into a 401(k) - it will disqualify the entire 401(k) plan. Gotta love the IRS.
