I'm still on the MPA gravy train, but based on discussions with my co-workers (non-NJA types) and mil types on these boards (NJA types)... the key is letting them know your schedule ahead of time. Plus, it helps if your unit has a flexible UTA policy. We only have 3 no-kidding mandatory UTAs per year. We are still required to do the other UTAs. However, if you miss the actual date of the UTA, you can come and fly with our sister unit, or just write the CP a training plan on you are going to keep current. Mandatories are the only ones that cannot be moved unless there is a "major life event". Very flexible overall.
Either way, they have to give you mil time. Just give them some notice to plan around your absence.

PS: Didn't I see you on AR62W? All you C17s types look the same.
