Most FBOs have free wireless, Direct TV or equivalent, sleeping toom, some have showers. Million Air gives you a Jag for a crew car(kinda fun every once and a while (I had the one in FVY up to 120 once)). Sitting in the FBO sucks but it's part of the job.
Yeah, I did my share of sitting around when I flew corporate once upon a time. Which was way before all this WiFi business and laptops. How about slugging bags around there at NJA? Do the FO's do that as well or what? Before I get flamed for not wanting to work etc etc, i'm just asking to have a better idea of the job description. I've slugged many bags into the BE400 I once flew.
Unfortunately hucking bags is part of the job. Seven days of workers comp, for throwing my back out to prove it. I think Griz even had an operation for a back due to on the job injury (Griz confirm ).
Hucking bags in the Ultra is bad because of the tight cramped luggage space. You have to be a contortionist just to get it loaded sometimes. Most of the owners are getting better over the last couple of years, but some (newbies) just don't get it. They still think we're the Atlas moving van line.
It's only getting worse as far as aircraft go. I saw the baggage compartment on the Sovereign last tour. Holy smokes that thing is big! Crew said they loaded out some surfboards earlier that week, with room to spare.
I guess the thing to do is make the line guys earn that fifty daddy warbucks just greased their palms with. Get them to help lift. Some offer, most don't.
