The best brush pilot in the world may not do well at all in this completely different environment.

I carried a lot of my float flying and bush flying experience to nj especially in the Ultra. We go into a lot of strips where watching the surroundings that gave you any idea of what was going on. Plus the experience of getting the job done if your stuck in the middle of nowhere. ie Pumping fuel yourself at some self serv station in middle of nowhere texas and running the credit card to get 200 more gallons of fuel. Took a while and a lot of receipts.

Another huge experience that i carry over here is my winter ops from our little bush town. Operating in -40 degrees was normal for us and i'm able to take that knowledge to nj. Especially when NJ sends you to chibougamou canada and you're trying to make sure that your one shot at starting the engine actually starts the plane.

I just wish i could still cary my leatherman.

Im sorry, but I came through the ranks in the late 80's-90's, you couldnt fly freight in a beatup Baron with less than 2000 hours multi engine time in 1989. I have little sympathy for 25 year old flight instructors looking for a way into NetJets with an ATP and 2500 hours in a Seminole.

I don't reckon anyone is awaiting your cry of empathy.

Besides, I know 2500 hour pilots with higher quality experience and more competency than some 5,000 hour pilots.

Ohh no I flew the bush and now i'm at NJA. Am I screwed too? Why didnt they tell me this ahead of time? They are not going to fire me if they find out are they, im still a probie! I dont suppose that I learned any useful skills that might apply to NJA while I was out there either.

Can you skin griz'?

Yeah but he might complain about it. Besides we all benefit from having him in his current position instead of a rug on the floor.
