You scolded him for not having it yet, as if it were a prerequisite
for something.

It is a pre-requisite...for getting hired. Especially in the current environment. Else the poster wouldn't be seeking the ATP in the first place.

Seems that many have the attitude of doing the bare minimum. Study as little as possible, seek the minimum certification, try to move up the ladder as fast as possible...why do anything extra?

The mentality that now one is flying an airplane that requires a type, and the employer eventually types, and one gets the ATP with the type...so why get an ATP...falls flat when one finds one's self out of work with no type and no ATP.

I'd better go get qualified in a tail wheel and a seaplane just in case.

Or maybe just get qualified for the things you need when you need them.

If you wish to be qualified for jobs that require a tailwheel endorsement in order to be competitive, sure. Not every many jobs require that.

Most jobs require an ATP to be competitive, however. as JAFI pointed out, not every job requires the ATP to get the job done, but when every other applicant already has the ATP and experience as the PIC, then not having one is a severe handicap.

You're right...nobody will twist your arm to go get additional training, and you're probably lazy enough that you wouldn't go get the tailwheel endorsement or the seaplane rating on your own.

Of course, if you are out of work and a job comes up which requires those things...it's a little late to start looking for a training vendor.

The point being that if this happens, then go spend the money.

Who cares if he is behind the curve or not, he is looking to develop his credentials right now! Why cry over spilt milk? As I recall he didn't ask if should have already have it or not, he asked what is the best method to get it, now that he realizes that he needs it. Not all of us have the money to buy training, when we are busy paying back the training we have already received. With that said, I got my ATP with 1505 hours, all to qualify for a job I didn't even get. But there really is no excuse to at least have the written done, so that when the time comes your ready.

How do you know he only has so many days off work to get it done and lives somewhere that there is no twin for rent. Don't make assumptions. I read your posts, and your usually smarter than that.

Oh my God, everyone run for cover! AVBUG BECAME A FED!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Hehe, just kidding.

They don't let freight dogs become feds.... :)

Ahhh... screw it... we both know that's not true.

I made no such assertions or assumptions. You're imagining things, again.
