If you are looking for cheap, foreign made "knock-offs", then buy Squire, Epiphone, Mexican Strats, etc. You can find them all day long at any music store in the under $500 range. But....
If you want first quality stuff made in the USA, custom built to your specifications, go to
Carvin and read about this company. Read reviews in all the major guitar magazines about their products. You probably won't find one for $200 (then again, you get what you pay for), but you can find good used ones on eBay and other places for around $500...or Custom Shop brand new to your specs for around $1000. Call Fender, Gibson, ESP, Jackson, PRS...etc. and ask them 2 questions. Will they build you a custom shop guitar? And if they answer that first question with a "yes", which I doubt, then ask them how much? Their quotes ususally start around $4000.
I guess it all depends whether or not you want a guitar that will last a lifetime, or one you will be replacing with a better one every few years. If you are looking for "bang for the buck", there is NO company that even comes close.
I'll give you one more link. Here's a thread about "why Carvin"...
