Any suggestions on a replacement? My last bag was so bad I had safety wire and radiator hose repair tape holding it together. The TSA folks began recognizing me by my flight bag and passengers even commented on how "broken in" it was, soooo....My preference is for leather, or any other sort of endangered species. I am not interested in cordura or those aluminum type refrigerator lookin' things. No wheels or locks or automatic shavecream dispeners, or remote anti-ugly FA repellent applicators. Just a good old durable bag, suitable for sticker applications and hopefully strong enough to park my a$$ on from time to time. Thanks for the input. Clip

If cost is not a factor, scottleather.com. They give airline discounts. I've had mine for 10+ years.

When I was looking for a bag I called Scott and asked to speak to someone about factory seconds. I was able to score one of their bags for a discount because the stitching was not perfect. To this day I have a hard time finding what she was talking about (it's in the flap that folds under).

They have a variety of seconds available. Someone returned a bag because he didn't like it, another was scuffed durring shipping. Their weren't that many when I was shopping but it's still cheaper then paying full price. She had between 3-5 bags and the % of discount varies depending on the condition of the bag.

Thanks for the input..

especially about the factory seconds, the way my currrent bag looks, you couldn't tell it was anything else.....

I do the opposite and get the cheapest thing I can find. For the past 10 months I've been using a $50 catalog case I bought at Staples. It's still holding up just fine. I'm glad I didn't buy a super-expensive case in the past because the CRJ I fly now has a pretty small slot for the flight bags, and none of my old ones would fit. The nylon bags bulge too much too fit, so a hard side bag is a must on this plane.

Staples, $65, laptop friendly soft leather briefcase. As a bonus, it doesn't look like a pilot bag, which seems a little safer to me while deadheading in these trying times.

Get the Samsonite $65 model. Mine has lasted several years so far. Duct tape sticks well to its vinyl surface when it does start to "go south"

Out of the Scott bags, which one would be more suitable?
I like the black one with the standard handle on top, not the one with handle straps coming up from the sides. And would the one on rollers be better, or would the plastic handle and rollers get in the way?

Good question. Everyone I know with a scott bag has the straps on the sides. Isn't the handle one of the first things to break?

I'd just think the handles look funny, and might get in the way at times?
I've seen lots of guys with the rollers and plastic handle, is that quite handy, are they pretty heavy duty and can they take some abuse? Anyone?

I have the one with the standard handle.

CL65,

does it work out nicely? Do you have the laptop pocket for it? BTW, does the CL-65 have the nice place to store a flight bag just like the Dash-8? Left side of the Capt or Right for the FO?

I don't have the laptop sleeve because I don't own one. The bag I have has a somewhat different handle than the one currently available, mine is not padded. Yes, the CRJ has a recessed slot for both the Capt and FO on each side. By the way, roller-style flight bags do not fit in the slot on the CRJ, at least not the few I've seen. They are too wide.

I bought my Scott leather bag from the stop over store in MSP. The guy had about 5 or 6 bags (multiple brands0 which people had returned for what ever reason. I got $50 off mine because a guy had returned his. There was nothing wrong with it. He had had his initials and the NWA logo embossed on the sides. I just put stickers over them and nobody knows the difference. The bag is awesome. Normally $275. I got it for $225. It fits fine on an ERJ.
