Got into a discussion about growth/expansion last week with an LCA. Apparently he has on good authority that the IAD base will be closing down and we'll be opening up an ORD base? Apparently with so much of the UAL flying going through ORD now, and possible expansion there, it works out better $$-wise to open a domicile there and close down IAD. We had both mentioned how much the IAD guys seem to be DH'ing to/from their trips, an lots of those DeadHeads are to ORD. He didn't have an exact date but late winter/early spring (I'm thinking March probably, to spool up for the summer flying in time).

Anyone else heard this? Kinda makes me wonder what it'll do seniority wise, considering IAD is so junior.

LCAs don't know as much as you might think. Don't believe everything you hear. Plans change on a day by day basis in St. George.

I believe it. Every leg at every outstation that I fly has an ExpressJet bird right next to me going to IAD while I go to ORD. My FO the other day was saying the same thing.

I would not count on express or asa keeping any of their ual flying long term. Smisek isnt like tilton he actually cares about performance and asa and express are both dead last. You think the dci bloodbath was bad, it will look good compared to what is in store for uax.

Let's hope that's not true...I think the UAL flying is good for us, we just need to improve performance (hey management, this is read as: FIX OUR PLANES WHEN WE SAY THEY'RE BROKEN). I'm so tired of seeing the same write up, week after week...

But yeah, as Zawillif says, so much of our flying seems to concentrate on ORD stuff and I see the Expressjet guys going to IAD, it only makes sense.

ASA sucks!!!

Good point, but the truth is this; ExpressJet can't really be blamed for ANY lack of operational performance anymore. ASA/ATL is now officially in charge, and what a p1ss poor job they did this weekend as we all saw.

Would make sense, I've spend the last two months doing trips leaving IAD the first day and not seeing IAD (only ORD flying) until the last day... I know ORD would go pretty senior, lot of guys live up there.

If this move were to happen in conjunction with the possible move to MEM from ATL, all hell would break loose. Probably see a lot of early retirements too...

Any chance we can rid this place of one S. Hall in the new contract or merger? That would be refreshing! That J.Off is so Principal Rooney.

On the Express side, we do a lot of trips that leave ord and are all ord, or den, or iad flying. Sometimes we hit all three in a 4 day.

As an update I'll inform you guys that our UAX operation the past two days have been ridiculous. We've had multiple airplanes go down in ORD with only a single mechanic. One or two flights were cancelled due to maintenance and several more were cancelled simply because they couldn't get all the deadheading crews in place. Had crews deadheading to/from IAD, ORD, ATL, CAE, GSP, GSO, and ROA. Think it's time this base opens now.

And who is running CS...Hmmm can we say a former ExpressJet person.

Oh it's been 2 pages long since we started UAX flying.

and we've needed a base since then. WOuldn't it be nice to spread out seniority a little bit more? ATL was our only base for too long and with the rumors of mem, why not even more to spread out that concentration of seniority

Name of said person? Was said person PERSONALLY in charge of making sure making sure the IT people did their job, or was that on a higher level?

CD.

You know, I use to be a pilot just like you years ago. Piss and moan about every little until I realized that it didn't matter. They don't call you asking for your ideas or how to run an airline. The only control you have is when it comes to a vote.

I also learned that you are either management OR labor....you can't be both. If you want to fix the airline call BH and ask him if he would hire you into a management position.

Wow, you're brilliant!!!

Let me guess, you're management now?

And that mechanic is leaving ASA.

He's already gone, which sucks because he worked his @$$ off and was incredibly effective for what he had to work with... the three that are up there now: well, one is brand new and working hard but the day we broke had no manuals (computer glitch, go figure) and few parts to work with, second one knew what he was doing but stretched thin, and the third one was totally useless (and no, he wasn't new... just clueless)

Nah, I enjoy my life away from work and poking fun at pilots like you.

Cool, "good on ya" as they say. But when you said this;

You've been through 3 groups. Erion, during George and John, would of had you eating her undies.. Ask anyone that has been here before 1998 and they will tell you that the original owners were hands down the worst.

implies you're still "here", but then you said this;

You know, I use to be a pilot just like you years ago.

So tell us Jedi Master, what EXACTLY is it that you do "here" at ASA, part of SkyWest holdings that no longer entails you "use to be a pilot"?

For the first time in my career at ASA, I've found myself looking at all the lifers and thinking to myself "you have no clue what is coming". Many of them are here because they can't move on financially, or they don't want to give up their QOL. In the end, they will end up losing both- this place appears to be getting weaker and weaker, and the prospects are dark. If something drastic isn't done to stem the tide, we are history. Regardless of longevity, seniority, or position, we're all headed for the house of pain.

Yeah, but despite being a rudderless ship, it'd be nice if mgmt can finally pick a new domicile and STICK WITH IT! I think ORD is a great choice though, I'd imagine we might even be able to pick up more UAX flying down the line, as I'm sure Delta will want less 50seaters in the future, we can move those planes to UAX flying out of ORD. I just hope the March date for opening ORD/closing IAD is the latest, and it possibly happens sooner!

Expressjet has a base in ORD. Why would this company (whatever the F it's called) move ASA to ORD, and Express to IAD? We're both covering both bases. Someone needs to cover IAD so having noone based there makes zero sense. But then again, this is FI.

What MIGHT make sense... is do give all the flying that ASA is doing in ORD to XJT and some if not most of the flying XJT is doing in IAD to ASA. Sort of an even swap, so ALL of ASA's CRJs are in IAD and most of XJT's ERJs are in ORD... less deadheading, stucks at an out station, etc... Trust me, I'd like an ORD base too but this kind of makes sense.
