Fond memories of VNY for me as well......Atlantis, AV8, Petersen line guy, Sunshine, Sunquest, 3 checkrides with Mark Boss....good times and good people.

Yep. Back then it really just an office with lots of fuel trucks. Now it's a full-service FBO.

Was this the place that fueled for the Van Nuys Flight Center? It's been a while since I've been there, but it was on the south east end of the airport.

Yup.

That's the place. But it's not a "was", it's an "is".

Van Nuys Flight Center moved to the North end of the airport on Roscoe Blvd. I think Rick Voorhis sold the place (or at least the instruction/rental gig).

I'll never forget when that guy asked me to buy all the gas for a 114TC Commander I ferried for him from Dallas. He said that was the least I could do for him letting me get all that flying time. I sort of wanted to say "EH?!? HELLO!! STARVING FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR HERE!!!"

As far as I know Greg Lewis still works out of there. I still see his funky little gray Buick thingy in the parking lot every now and then when I drive by there to go to Home Depot.

Are you guys talking about a resturant named "Valley Ranch". Is that the same place?

I did my Multi and Single Commercial at Sussex. Also rented a few airplanes at Bud Walen around '94-'95, I remember one of the flight instructors giving lessons to some Beverly Hills rich girl who would preflight the plane in while dressed like a runway model with high heels and a large hat, and take her miniture dog up in the plane..

No, different place...

Valley Ranch Barbeque is about 1/2 mile west of the field on Sherman Way. Great food and reasonably priced.

If I'm not mistaken, the old Sky Trails bar was torn down years ago. It was on the corner of Hayvenhurst and Sherman Way, across the street from where Bud Walen's used to be. There used to be aircraft parking adjacent to the bar, and that caused a few incidents...

Not to be confused with Sky Trails FBO. It's on the south end of the field on Vanowen. No food, no booze.
