I seemed to remember hearing that in the Buddy Holly crash, that the artificial horizon was either caged or inoperative at the time. Not sure how the autopilot worked on that aircraft, but it may have not worked in that condition.User997 said:What's truly tragic about both the Buddy Holly, and Patsy Cline crashes was that both airplanes were equipped with an autopilot.
