Of the 5 viable presidental candiates (Romney,Mccain,Guliani,Clinton, Obama) which do you believe will be most friendly towards organized labor? Or should I say least unfriendly? In Nov 08 I'm going to put all my other political beliefs totally to the side and vote strickly for the best labor canidate.

With storm clouds on the horizion regarding cabatoge it is time to not let the camels nose into the tent. We need to go to war over this. Now is the time to do that while it still in it's infancy. Consider yourself warned.

Sure, I guess Obama and Clinton would be more "labor friendly" on the surface, but be careful what you wish for. I am well aware of our current administration's spending habits, but I would bet that Clinton and Obama would be more likely to redistribute whatever wealth you accumulate rather than the GOP candidates. Clinton is a Socialist and who knows what Obama is. There are NO labor friendly politicians! I repeat, there are NO labor friendly politicians. If they are "labor friendly", then they have been bought and I 'll pass on that. While I 'm on a roll, this is what I want: FAIR TAX, real immigration reform and mandatory assimilation, radical capital investments in technology, Dept of Homeland Security gone, the privatization of EVERYTHING, TORT REFORM, voting protocol needs major work, term limits for everybody, and fruit-baskets instead of my USA Today. I am already growing tired of myself so I 'll stop now. Maybe I can post some additions later when I am in the mood to stir things up a bit more. For now, good night and happy ranting.

Don't you mean with my USA today?:D

What about a house and something to eat? Where does that fall into to your issues.

Perhaps you are quite content with your career and your current income and its potential. How about your retirement. That might be good too since you don't have that on your list.

The fact is you can customize your issues... just don't forget the Air Line Pilot Profession when you do...

I'm on board with pretty much everything you posted Dude except for the "Fair Tax" by which I assume you mean the national sales tax. In Europe, they call it the "Value Added Tax" and it is paid ON TOP OF onerous income taxes. You want to see more of your money go out the door, support a national sales tax. The minute tax revenues fail to meet what government wants under that scheme, they'll bring back the income tax and we'll have BOTH. Have you ever seen any government in this country give up a tax? Besides which, sales tax is incredibly regressive and would require some new government agency to figure out rebates for poor people. If you want a truly fair, simple, and progressive tax structure, support a flat 20% tax on every dollar earned (including dividends, interest, etc.) above a standard $10,000 deduction per person in the houshold.

As to the basic question of the thread, so far I'm voting None of the Above.

That's my rant and I'm sticking to it.

I agree as well. I think the FAIR TAX is in reference to the recent drive to get rid of the IRS.

None seem to be. Clinton seems to get a lot of undeserved credit for being labor friendly but she was on the board at Wal-mart and didn't seem to be overly concerned with the outsourcing of US jobs (i.e., China).
Both Reps and Dems seem to be at peace with granting amnesty to all our friends from the south. A mass flood of "cheap" labor and more people for the politicians to pimp off of - Homeland Security my arse.
Some talk a good game but at the end of the day Wong Fu is still making your BBQ grill and tennis shoes while Joe Citizen is working at a cell phone joint pushing a Chinese made cell phone.

The fair tax is not a VAT tax. The book goes into to all of this. It is an idea so simple that it can be hard to understand...I had to read it twice. I doubt it will ever happen though. The power to tax is the ultimate and the greed politicians will not give it up without a fight.

Agreed, the value-added tax gives politicians more power to manipulate tax laws to the wills of lobbyists and contributors than our present tax system. This is NOT what the sponsors of HR25 want. If you search Google, you will find all kinds of articles decrying the virtues of this great idea. However, the vast majority of the critics are fed mistruths by K street lobbyists, and others who make their money influencing our tax system. These people are scared sh_tless by the Fairtax! It would represent the single largest transfer of economic power from government to governed in our nation's history.

If you're interested, read the book [yes, Boortz does bash on Democrats and to a lesser extent, Republicans] and THEN read the criticisms of the idea. You will find that most critics either don't really know what the Fairtax plan entails, or put forth downright mistruths about it.

Only $12 and you can download the book to your PC.

The most labor friendly? Why, President Bush!!!!!!! He just signed into law a bill that will raise the minumum wage to something like $9/hr in a couple of years. Nobody is ever done that.

Maybe Hucklebee since he wants REAL immigration reform, and not just a disguised amnesty program like the rest of them want.

They are all big business guys and want to see cheap labor (read that Mexicans and Central Americans) flood into the country and drive down costs. That makes the rich much richer, especially the corporate elite class who can dupe the idiot middle class in the country with Walmart prices . . . at least for a few years until the economy tanks.

I believe it's going up to 7.25 an hour, and the ONLY reason he signed that was because it was attached to the Iraq spending bill.

NONE OF THE ABOVE. MAO HE's OUR MAN!

Anyone who votes to save his/her JOB over the SECURITY of our country, and preserving our QUALITY OF LIFE doesn't deserve to vote.
You can always get another job.

I'm not sure that any of the candidates that you listed are really pro-labor. Biden and Edwards are probably the most pro-labor of the crop.

Fred Dalton Thompson... I second that motion, and signed the petition.

Used to fly him around in a Lear from time to time (McCain, too). He's about as straightforward as you can get from a politician.

Which is probably why he's doomed to try, but it would be nice to have a candidate I could actually support.

If you want to live like a Republican, you sure as hell better start voting Democrat. :D

Edwards joins Forester Financial as an advisor to learn about poverty....Hmmm his pay. $500,000.00. His company keeps its money off shore so they can avoid taxes. He gets 55k to talk to 1700 students at a Cal state college. He is all over that PRO-LABOR, PRO-AMERICA PRO-LITIGATION stuff. Can I get an AMEN?

Discussion about a pro labor Prez and it turn to taxes..... and immigration... we are doomed as air line pilots!

Because those issues are so unimportant???? I wish I could be so narrow minded to vote on a single issue, but I cant. While my job is important to me, fixing the problems in this country and preservation of our way of life is more important...

We are doomed as airline pilots because our Union has abandoned the membership. (That might not be totally true, but that is the perception of the membership. And unfortunately, perception is reality)

Hi!

Those aren't the top candidates.

I looked at information where thousands of people bet actual MONEY on the outcome of the election, so I believe those figures are the most accurate.

Currently:
Hilary
Obama
Guiliani
Gore

Hilary is out in front, with Obama not too far behind.
Guiliani is trailing by A LOT, with Gore close on his heals.
Everyone else has an almost miniscual presence.

I think Edwards is by far the most labor freindly, as he is running a basically "Populist" campain-the common man is most important. Unfortunately, he doesn't stand much of a chance.

Interesting that there are no anti-abortion candidates that have any chance. What will the anti-abortion voting block do?

ELP

Maybe they'll join the "Save the Unborn Whales" club since that seems to be a lot more worthy.
