I hate this religion.
Funny, I don't see that remark in the brochures the Mormons pass out... :D

Forgive my ignorance: just why exactly is it that it's called "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?" Shouldn't it be "...and Latter-Day Saints?" Seems grammatically awkward.

Hey Mogus

*There is a line in the Book of Mormon that says that if the Native Americans accept the gospel, then they will become "white and delightsome." The line was changed back and forth for quite a while and now I think it reads "pure" instead of "white." I've talked to a few Mormons about this and they really believe it. They think it's literally a curse to be black.

Your kidding right?

I have to agree that you are confused, very confused! I grew up in SLC in a LDS family. I am the Black Sheep if you will. I was a Bartender for a number of years and did many a wild and crazy non LDS kind of things. Never have I heard or seen any of what you are talking about.

This is how I look at it. Reguardless of what faith you follow it's a guide. It teachs you right from wrong and values. It teaches you to constantly strive to be a better person. It the whole do unto others thing. Do you have to be LDS or even religous to get this out of life? No. Just don't go off the deep end thinkig Mormons are wacked. H*ll you can make fun of all of them for one reason or another.

As for the Frisbee thing. I thing it's due to the fact that large familys don't have much spare cash and it's a left over from when the family was smaller and able to do more. Besides Frisbees are cheap and no one gets to upset if it gets lost.

Hopefully I can keep this fairly short, because I could go all day talking about the LDS. Now I wouldn't consider myself the expert, but I have lived here (Utah) for 20 years. I've seen many friends off on missions, been to funerals, weddings, and been forced to attend church while dating (although I don't remember protesting too much at the time :D ).
First, Hey Mogus

Your kidding right?

Now up untill the late seventies, 1977 if I'm correct, blacks were not allowed to to hold any calling. The reason I'm told is that a person of color in early times was considered evil. Is this correct?
Second,
they do NOT deserve much of the flack they receive.
I would have to respectfully disagree, ATL2CDG, but that is just my opinion.

Awhile ago in another thread, someone had said that SkyWest and Jetblue have done so well because they were started and run by LDS owners. Well I heard a joke the other day, from a member mind you, that pretty well sums it up-

A Catholic priest and a mormon bishop were camping at a lake one night. A beautiful woman washes up on the beach naked, they run up to her and see that she's only been dead for a short time. The priest looks at the bishop at says,"Well, should we screw her?". The bishop looks at him and says"Out of what?"

Now if you know any businessmen in the state that also goes to church, that's pretty funny.

What can you say about a group that can have as much fun as they do without beer OR porn! I will say that although the liquor laws here are a joke, it does make for a pretty good state. And if I don't like I can always move. Whew! I guess that's enough for now.

Well I guess the native americans did not bring the frisbees when they arrived on a boat from Isreal :)

I'm highly suspicious of anyone who says to me, "see that guy in the big chair...he knows best, just do what he says."

That goes for Democrats as well as various religious hierarchies.

Yeah, sounds like all the Democrats I know...

Andy Neill, I think you hit the nail on the head there. Clearly, the Frisbee's genetic lines lead back, inevitably, to Salt Lake City!

It's laughable that some of you actually think that fun can not be had without alcohol and porn. So Mormons are boring because they are creative enough to make their own fun without being completely smashed?

Secondly, mormons don't blindly follow the prophet and his counselors. God has always had prophets on the earth to help remind the people of his commandments. In the Bible it states that God is never changing. Therefore, why would he only have prophets on the earth at certain times? A prophet is not someone to replace God it is someone to be an example and to deliver God's will to his people. That seems pretty simple to understand to me.

Lastly, a lot of the Mormon doctrines can only be understood when you understand the basic gospel of Jesus Christ. When you started flight training if someone came up to you and began to teach you about mach tuck and other advanced ideas, you wouldn't understand them. The same applies here. As you learn simple teachings you begin to understand more advanced ideas. I'm sure the idea of "special underwear" is the most foreign idea to you. That is expected. But as one learns more and more about the gospel of Jesus Christ, more understanding is added.

I won't even try to explain all the other questions people had about Mormon beliefs. What may seem foreign to you is something cherished by others.

P.S. Don't believe everything you read on these message boards posted by people that have no idea what they're talking about.

Oh yeah, I hate frisbee.

fun & alcohol

Once you've had fun with it, you won't have fun without it!
