More US Air recalls

From a US jumpseater, the lastest bid has 50 recalls but net minus 5 seat positions.

The rumor has it that some on property pilots will get bumped down to the 190 F/O.

There are only 30 recalls on the latest bid. Nobody will get bumped to the 190 FO position on this bid. That would be impossible with returning furloughees. The only way that could happen is if a returning furloughed pilot bumped an active pilot out of his position, as the 30 vacant positions available are NOT 190 positions...

Actually, I think what might be setting forth (if I remember correctly) someone said, with the delay, the 190 guys could bid other equipment since they haven't been trained yet???? Dunno. But if that's the case, they could bid off the 190 and if they are Sr. to those that took the recall first time, then possibly bump them down??? Dunno.....only way I could think it would happen though...

Again it was jumpseat banter.

The example he had was recalled pilots go to the airbus or 737. Months pass by then, a new system bid has a reduction in 737 or AB flying and a gain of 190 flying with no furlough recalls. The junior pilots on the reduced aircraft would get bumped back to the 190.

Not like it would happen but it could in that scenario.

I'm quite confident ALPA has looked, thoroughly, at all of the potential scenarios and has a plan to prevent any and all problems that may arise.

Just receive a letter from Hogg stating that over the next several months there will be more recalls into the 190 as well as Group II aircraft. He also mentions positions opening at AWA. I think they are trying to get a handle on the recall process as it looks like it will start moving a little more rapidly in the near future...

Yeah I got it too. 1 page from Hogg about possible recalls in the near future -- and 3 pages about a newhire class at Republic on Nov 6th. Included payrates, benefits, training pay (none for first 30 days), hotels (double occupancy in training), etc. Came with a J4J preference sheet.

The interesting part of Hogg's letter was the following statement:

"...we will be sending letters to pilots in a seniority range that could possibly be eligible for recall. This notification letter will ask you of your intention to accept recall on either a Group II aircraft of the EMB190 aircraft. Once we have determined which pilots have expressed a desire to return to active status at US Airways, those pilots recalled will receive a recall package and training class assignment."

I see. Standby to standby for a letter.

If a pilot does not return this first letter (and therefore makes no preference) what will they do?

As usual, the silence from the furlough administrator is deafening.

I thought that was interesting too. It seems they want to poll the furloughees about returning, and only offer recall to those that indicated they would come back without actually going through the list with a firm recall offer. I don't know what happens to those that don't get the letter or just fail to respond...

It mentions recalling for age 60 attrition which is about 30 per month. If they go one for one and ramp up the international by 3 more destinations this spring it'll really start things moving ...

prob. awarded same as a recall. they go down the list, and offer a position out west. Seniority order takes it...

The December bid had 15 recalls. That was messed up by a delay in the 190 deliveries. This latest bid for Jan. had 30 recalls. Basically the company re-ran the Dec bid along with the latest one. That information came from Charmane in the Flt. Dept. The bid award is posted on the ALPA site and lists all positions at Airways. There are 45 blank FO positions yet to be filled. These are currently being filled. The final award with these positions filled should be out in about a week...
