talking about being undercut by Mesa now knows what most former/fuloughed 737 et al. drivers feel about THEM. Be carefull about spouting off about who is selling out who..........especially if you are flyin' one of those guppy killers.......

are you the same chine clipper that used to give JO a ration of his own crap on Yahoo many years ago? those were the days.

So you fear Mesa, and keep tabs on the company because of what J.O. might do next?

That's interesting considering the majority of posters on this board paint the company to be the epitome of piss poor service, bad management, dubious decision making, and the largest employer of third rate 200 hour pilots.

If any of that were true, how is the company so successful?

How do you reconcile the two concepts? If Mesa is such crap how is the company so successful?

Because of the current state of the industry United/Delta/CAL/NWA are looking for cheep contracts in lou of quality. Plan and simple. Just because your growin' dosen't make it a dream job. If that's the case go work for Walmart!!!

Gone but not forgotten!!!

The Clip is NEVER to far to hear the cries of the oppressed!

"Mesa's ticket-counter space and gate assignments are still being negotiated, Ishikawa said. "

I ran into one of the project dudes at the commuter terminal the other day. The current counters are being scrapped and moved towards the glass doors a bit. The number I heard was 21 or 22 counters for PW, Island Air, Mokulele, and Mesa. Could get busy down there. Then that snack shop dude would be forced to keep his place open for more than 20 minutes at a time. ;)

Oh - they also said something about reorganizing the ramp out there. Not quite sure how that's going to work, but we'll see. Those 3 small (old) Hawaiian gates at the ocean end of the commuter terminal haven't been used in quite a while.

I'll believe 21 counters when I see it. By the way, are you talking about the MAKAI end of the terminal? Haole!

Nope. Ocean end, whitey. Try as you might... you'll always be white. :) As for the counters, that's what the project guy told me. Apparently there have been contractors there preparing to submit bids. He couldn't tell me how long it was going to take to get the project done, but with Mesa coming in April I would imagine... 2 months and change? :)

i hear you guys had JO thrown off Yahoo by the FAA. Something about an airline CEO spending 9 hours a day arguing with annonymous flamebaiters all day long about everything under the sun and not running an airline. Rock on! I think Hawaii is going to be too good to miss. Watching mesa make asses of themselves under their own colors finally for a change is going to be priceless. Too bad i wont be out there to see it for myself.

WP's probably going to keep hiring if you want to get closer to the action! :erm:

Hawaiian Airlines sues new competitor

Hawaiian Airlines is seeking to block Mesa Air Group Inc.'s entry into the interisland market for two years, alleging the low-cost carrier improperly used confidential business data it received when Hawaiian was in bankruptcy.
Phoenix-based Mesa plans to begin flying interisland routes in April or May with one-way fares as low $43.
Mesa was one of several potential suitors that expressed an interest in acquiring Hawaiian during its bankruptcy reorganization. Hawaiian said that Mesa was given access to more than 2,000 pages of confidential financial information about Hawaiian's routes, marketing plans, financial projections and other records.
Mesa's CEO Jonathan Ornstein said Hawaiian's suit indicates "how afraid of us they really are. They are doing everything they can so that they can continue to overcharge the Hawai'i people."
Hawaiian attorney Bruce Bennett wrote in the suit that "If Mesa is allowed to enter Hawai'i's interisland market, having been provided with access to and improperly used and retained Hawaiian's proprietary information ... Hawaiian would incur substantial losses by virtue of reduced revenues, market share and customer relationships."
In September, Mesa announced plans to start its new, low-cost interisland carrier to compete directly against Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines.
"The thrust of this is to prevent competition," said Ornstein.
Hawaiian, which filed for bankruptcy in 2003, emerged from Chapter 11 reorganization last June under the ownership of California-based Ranch Capital LLC.
In its complaint, Hawaiian is seeking unspecified monetary damages in addition to the two-year injunction barring Mesa from operating interisland flights.
Hawaiian says the information available to potential investors during its bankruptcy was subject to an April 2004 confidentiality agreement, which barred Mesa from using any of the information for two years, Hawaiian said.
Bennett, Hawaiian's attorney, said that Mesa's Ornstein told investors in a teleconference last month that Mesa had the benefit of looking at Hawaiian and Aloha books when they were under bankruptcy protection.
"The benefit that Mesa obtained from 'looking' at Hawaiian's interisland business would have come entirely from Mesa's review of trade secrets and proprietary information ... and not any pleadings or monthly reports filed by Hawaiian," Bennett wrote.

Mesa maint.

I see Mesa has an opening for a QC inspector on JS firm for HNL. Looks like the maintenance people are smarter than the pilots in not wanting to move over here and be stuck when they go under!

Bigglesworth, how did you get that avitar past the puritans?!?

Hey Skydivinguy, tired of working for Greg? You can come over here and go toe to toe with WP working for a real airline now!

Mesa Air Group's effort to start a new low-cost interisland airline is getting closer to liftoff.
The Phoenix-based carrier, which plans to begin interisland service in the second quarter, said it has reached an agreement for office space at the commuter terminal at Honolulu Airport.
The airline also said it has hired Hendrix Miyasaki Shin Advertising Inc. and Bright Light Marketing Group for its advertising and public relations work.
Mesa announced in September that it was investing $50 million in a new interisland carrier to compete with Aloha and Hawaiian airlines, with one-way fares as low as $43.
"Our goal is to offer local traveling families, friends and business people the highest quality service with the aloha spirit, at the lowest fares available," said Jonathan Ornstein, Mesa's chief executive officer.
Greg Stephens, Mesa's chief operating officer, said the airline's offices will include space on the main floor and on the second level.
Stephens said Mesa's new local advertising and public relations operations will work closely on the airline's launch and are helping to develop the carrier's corporate name, logo and brand image.
Stephens said Mesa plans to announce the new airline's corporate name shortly.
Founded in 1982, Mesa operates 1,050 daily departures to more than 165 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In addition to its Mesa Airlines unit, the company operates as America West Express, Delta Connection, US Airways Express and United Express under agreement with America West, Delta Air Lines, US Airways and United Airlines.

If it's anything like their mainline operation, there's going to be a lot of hot and sticky families flying in airplanes with defered APU's:cool:

If anyone on earth is unqualified to comment about, or refer to the "aloha spirit" it is JO.

Well, JO never said anything about high quality service. He said highest service POSSIBLE for lowest price. When everone gets upset at cancellations, crappy A/C (ie. no APU), and terrible ontime performance they'll understand the true slogan. "Fly us, we fly like sh!t, but you'll pay sh!t to fly." Unfortunately it works for WalMart and Mesa.

300 mil in the bank, and one of the few profitable airlines in the country. Moving five 50 seat jets to HI and undercuting the companies there is not going to have any impact on Mesa's bottom line. The fact is that people want to fly for free, didn't you ever hear the Bud Light add? Mesa could fly these jets for 10 years without ever taking a single passanger and the company would still be turning a profit. Mesa offers the lowest price and looses money in HI to get rid of all the other airlines flying inter-island, then takes over. As evil and underhanded as this may be, it makes good buisness sense. It's unfortunate for the companies being undercut but that's how buisness works. I seem to remember hearing something about putting all your eggs in one basket...

Yes, those pesky anti-trust laws written in 1917, bastards to get around. I hear they stop companies from attempting capitalist moves like this. Guess that was the one thing no one on the board thought about when planning on opening Hawaii. Good thing you are here to remind everyone about those pesky anti-trust laws, otherwise who knows what would have happened?!?! Come to think of it, you should probably have kept your mouth shut so Mesa would break the law and JO would have been thrown in Jail. That's it buddy, from now on all the flack that Mesa gets will be directed at you for not letting JO go to jail. You have done a great dis-service to the whole of aviation. Thanks.

Op has been postponed.
