And that why they will tell you they need money out of pocket for lawyers. They did it to a friend of mine at Mesa.
"Well you see, these types of fee's aren't covered by your dues. We're going to need $2,500 up front"

Was he the guy who stole the Ipod? I don't know if ALPA legal covers bail...

Really? Prove it.

Well captain b sent me a letter 2 days ago and said it's not in my or the company's interest to give the pilots representation. So I guess I vote no on the 31st?

It's not in the company's best interest, because the company's "best interest" is to have the lowest paid, hardest working pilots anywhere. That maximizes profits so that the shareholders can wipe their bums with $100 bills.

It's only not in your best interest if you are a management stooge. If they protect you, give you extra pay, and preferrentially treat you, ALPA might be a bad choice for you.

ALPA will be busy looking out for the guy who is getting screwed left and right by scheduling. ALPA will protect the guy who calls in sick the second time in 6 years and is told that his pay will be docked and he will have to visit the chief pilots office.

I can promise you that the latter greatly outnumber the former and if they all vote, will bring a victory for the working people.

Yes we are really hard working pilots. That doesn't mean you can take advantage of us. It's time to stop being whores. Vote Yes.

Love, the hillbilly.

Well.... What do you think? Can't you make a decision without the company telling you what to do. Remember. If the company tells me something is bad, it is more that likely good for that pilot group.

I am not afraid of hard work. I really love the feeling of a job well done / going the extra mile / giving it your all. I'm being serioius!

But when I go that extra mile, it had better be appreciated. And by appreciated I mean BIG MONEY NO WHAMMIES.

Still dosen't answer the question about the statement you made.
If any of the Mesa guys can chime in during that time, when a supposed ALPA rep was telling guys that they needed money out of pocket to protect their seniority number.
If any Mesa guys can back up the stories of my friends down there, then we have proof of not just once, but a number of times where guys have been told they need money out of pocket, to pay for things that "dues don't cover"

Ok here is a story about screw scheduling:
A few weeks ago I was supposly on a must ride from PHL on PSA. After arriving at the gate 20 min before departure, the gate agent told me that I was not listed for the flight. I immediatly called scheduling and they told me that it was pretty much my responsibilty to get home after a tdy trip. Then after a 10 minute argument they listed me as a mustride like previously agreed over a few days ago. Then after the gate agent finding the must ride reservation, got on the terminal pa and said in front of hundreds of passengers: "because of this pilot standing here, we are going to have to bump one of you off this flight.....please see me if you volunteer" And of course got the evil looks from everyone. Didn't make the flight in the cabin, but because of the PSA captain being a former colgan guy, I made the jumpseat....so if your going home from tdy, make sure your listed as a mustride before even leaving to go on the trip in the first place. Appreciated the frickin hassle scheduling.....never will answer your calls again. : )

funny same thing happened to me going home after IOE

I never heard of an assessment at Mesa but anything is possible I guess. I believe Comair had an assessment right around the time of their strike to help cover some of the excessive costs of their negotiations. The Comair MEC chose to spend more money than their budget allowed for though.

Assessments are very rare at ALPA and even when they do happen its typically less than an additional 1% of salary. There is no way anyone was ever liable for $2500 in assessments. Maybe $25, but not $2500.

I have had it with 500HR new hires with one foot still in a C-172 telling me how we need ALPA. There are three groups of pilots at Colgan that want ALPA. The first group is new hires who just don’t know any better. The second is the bitter old timers who have been unable to move on to the majors. The third is the sloppy unprofessional pilots who need ALPAs legal protection because sexual harassment complaints, FAA certificate action and Colgan disciplinary measures are an issue for them. Colgan is a stepping stone, get your time, keep you nose clean, upgrade and move on. It is not a career airline!

You paid $10 just to say that?

So there are no hard working individuals who want/can move who have kept their nose clean who are for ALPA at Colgan? Have you been on vacation the last months or something? Colgan is not a career airline, but guess what people have bills to pay today, not tomorrow. People want to be treated with respect and not stepped on all the time NOW. That excuse of "It's just a stepping stone" is battered wife syndrome. You accept your circumstances as being ok. You owe it to yourself, your family, and your coworkers to expect better for your hard work and sacrifice.
