Its the whole "get your time and get out" attitude that keeps this place from being a place where people wouldn't mind staying. At a time where pilot rentention is the name of the game, even management should become more concerned with what things employees need to keep them around.

Nothing like one month's notice for the closing of Leb as a beech base. That'll win over some anti-ALPA folks I'm sure. I wonder who's next?

I have had it with 500HR new hires with one foot still in a C-172 telling me how we need ALPA
.

I'm telling you you need ALPA, and I'm no 500hr kid...

Colgan is a stepping stone, get your time, keep you nose clean, upgrade and move on. It is not a career airline!

Nobody is arguing the fact the colgan is only a steping stone...but just because it is only a step to the majors doesn't make the pilots here less worthy of the voice, job protections and benefits of having a union on the property. The arguement that "colgan's just a stepping stone...it's supposed to be bad!" is pittiful.......ALPA is good for the pilots of Colgan, and it's good for the profession....let's stop this race to the bottom....

ITH switched from at Beech base to a SAAB base with a NEGATIVE 3 day notice a few years ago...SAAB came in on Friday... Some Beech guys showed up to work Monday to find out ITH was no longer their base. Oh yeah and the HTS guys found out they were closing that base via the 6 O'clock news and morning paper when it was announced PIT was no longer non stop from HTS. 1 month notice was unheard of a few years ago.

Well what if you want it to be. Say you like living in CHO. Your wife has a good job at UVA. You just want some solid work rules.

As for the brain dead comment about bitter oldtimers. Maybe the major they want to get on with isn't hiring right now. Or maybe the first SWA wasn't a success. Always a second shot.

Go fly around the Colgan system. Try different bases. Fly with more than 3 people for a few years. Really opens up your mind!

Even if Colgan might be a stepping stone, how exactly would ALPA not be good for those folks?

ALPA can be a huge positive for every worker at Cogan, in fact. You go to work at the airline you currently work for, not your fantasy airline. What if hiring stops at the majors? Then you could be at Cogan for awhile.

Furthermore, many guys might have their individual reasons to stay at Colgan. Don't they deserve a solid contract with decent work rules?

Most airlines people move on to will be ALPA, or at least ALPA supported/cooperative (i.e. will buy ALPA services).

ALPA is good for the others, and it will also be good for Colgan. Note, I did not say "perfect". ALPA is not perfect, but they are much better than the alternatives.

Most of the anti-ALPA posts here are weak and shrill, aimed at emotions, and utterly laking in logic. It's as if they are cut-and-pasted right off of some management-stooge website, with no bearing on reality.

Any management stooges here?

That might be the problem with these folks who are sitting in the middle of nowhere, not having to deal with any bs. No Bearing on Reality.

Vote Yes!
