Instead, they were stuck on the ground for nearly six hours with just snacks to eat, after the local representative of Mesaba Airlines erroneously cited security rules for refusing to allow the passengers off the plane."
 
Any ASA Crew which has dealt with the Mesaba stations will not be amazed at this article. Our stations at their worst are far better than any Mesaba station I have worked with.

This winter those clowns are going to break airplanes or hurt people attempting to de-ice planes. I guarantee it.
 
Does anyone find it weird that the XJT crew was begging and pleading with some Mesaba gate agent or ramper all night long? By 3 AM I would've called the local police department (the city owns the airport). Then tell them that all the passengers and crew are stranded at the airport, as the captain I am taking the passengers off the plane and need them to be escorted due to TSA being closed. End of story.
 
So, I guess an "planned" alternate can be anywhere there is enough concrete regardless if there are planned accomodations for the aircraft and crew? Who planned RST as an alternate and did they think about what might happen if it were to be actually used? Did they call anyone to make sure the aircraft could be handled properly or was it an emergency diversion?

By the way, the FBO handles large aircraft for King's, Prince's and diplomats world-wide (for Mayo Clinic) and they could have handled the aircraft there as well.

Listening to that STRIB tape I heard nothing about passengers unable to deplane but I did hear XJT coordinator say they had another half hour to make a decision and the Mesaba manager state they wanted to get them off if possible...

It seems that if they diverted to an "unserved" airport, that the airport manager would be the go-to person on security procedures. Mesaba doesn't own the airport, or manage the airport, or run security there. I assume they just lease space to operate flights in/out of it. How does that make them the final authority on security there?

Thats why the airport manager was quoted the day after the incident as saying the pax could have come off at any time. He was telling the truth.

Now that Richard Anderson has to explain to people and the press what happened at that Mesaba station, I am sure his opinion of DCI carriers has waned. I bet he can't wait to keep that side of our business shrinking.

After dealing with plenty of XJ run ramps... this doesn't suprise me one bit.

A bit more command leadership on the part of the captain would have been very beneficial as well.

You're dealing with a female captain. She can't think for herself.
If it were me, I would have de planed the aircraft. Ordered pizza and put it on my own credit card. Then after I was fired, I would get a job with one of the media outlets and be the spokesman as to why the airlines suck and make my millions there.

Almost EVERY city the Avro's went to were NWA ground stations. Now after the bankruptcy's I don't think we go to a single city served by NWA (or Delta) ground employees. It's either a regional or a staffing company (WFS, Aramark, ect.)

General Lee, Richard Anderson would step over his mother to save a dollar, just like every other airline executive. He doesn't care for the well being of any passenger, DL or not, and his opinion of DCI carriers will only fade when they start costing him more than it would to just have DL pilots do the flying. There's a reason Continental has Gulfstream fly their pax around with students in the right seat learning how to fly while the pax think they're on Continental Airlines. It's CHEAP AS F**K.
 
whoever took over the Montana stations really sucks thus far, too bad because that place use to be by far the best run stations. Should be a fun winter. Nice job DL!
