Thanks, there is hope. I think you hit the nail on head with the "still a grey area" comment though unfortunately. Talking to the chief pilot when I'm in a position to do so seems like the right idea. Thanks again.
The local FSDO here considers commercial flying the flying that requires a 2nd class medical to do. CFI work requires a third or none if the student is PIC so it's not considered "commercial" flying for purposes complying with part 121 flight time limitations.
