Gotta remember that the President has a limited ability to do anything unless he can get it through Congress. Once Obama's BS platitudes are exposed and a pricetag attached, I doubt if he's going to be able to get through a even a slice of his expensive social wealth re-distribution scheme. He will, of course, try to appoint judges that will do tortured interpretations of the constitution. That's the real danger of a far left president.

Yawn.. 8 years of this crap. I am so sick of you all pounding the "fear the left" drum while your boys drive the country off a cliff.

It is the height of hypocrisy. Let the other team give it a try. You literally cannot do any worse.

Socialism, OK what version are you talking about because we have Mr. Chavez version in Venezuela or we have our friends in France, Germany, Spain and we can go on through most of Europe. Each country has their own version of "Socialism", so when asking a question like that please be more specific. lol. uba757

Point of Order

The Fed just cut the prime rate 1.25% in ten days and mortgage interest rates are still going UP. You think we're on sound financial footing? The rapacious greed of the boomer generation has created not only the on-the-books nightmare of unfunded entitlements, but the much bigger off-the-books lending nightmare of the last 30 years.

I agree with the tone of your post. However, the Fed cutting interest rates is far from a direct correlation to mortgage rates. Mortgage rates are based largely on the treasury bond market. True, when the Fed cuts rates it can ripple and cause the stock market to go down which temporarily reduces mortgage rates amid the turmoil. The water level eventually takes effect and mortgage rates tend to rise when the Fed cuts the interest rate. Those that invest in mortgages will lower rates when inflation is expected to slow and will raise them when increased inflation is expected.

Can anybody on this forum convince me that the Demoncrats aren't pushing the US closer to socialism?

Look, I'll be as simplistic as possible. There is a spectrum. On one extreme, there is laissez-faire capitalism which is just as bad as the other extreme, communism.

Guess what? Any public works backed infrastructure is, by definition, socialism. Public education, fire, police, welfare etc. You want to reap the benefits of living here, damn right your money should go for the social welfare of society. i.e. Are you one that believes you shouldn't pay local school taxes because you don't have kids? If so, wrong! Everyone benefits from an educated society.

Sorry folks, this isn't the frontier anymore and unless you live off the grid and buy absolutely nothing, nobody is their own island. You live in society, you benefit from society whether you believe it or not.

This is not to say the system isn't broken but, just don't go blindly lambaste socialism because you don't know the definition.

McCain, in fact, has voted more than once for an open-sky policy that encorages lower wage pilots from foreign country, such as the Red China, to take over US pilots' jobs. He has indicated that in a free GLOBE market, regardless of nationalities, any worker must be as competitive as another worker from another country, regardless of standard of living in their own country. If he is voted into the office, expect more of the same: paycuts, threats of bankruptcies, loss of pensions (if you havent already), and probably loss of medical benefits.

Will one of you "universal healthcare" idiots please point me to the exact article/section/amendment of the U.S. Constitution where it states healthcare is a right???

News flash: it ain't there.

Furthermore, name one instance of an individual in this country who was denied life saving trauma care because he didn't have health insurance.

None of these candidates speak of true freedom and self reliance - it's all about what the government can do for me. How can Uncle Sam get in someone else's pocket and redistribute their hard earned waelth to me so my wife can go download another tricycle motor and I can afford to take that road trip to the next race in Talladega????

Oh, when universal healthcare does come to fruition and one of your loved ones is denied a transplant or other procedure because they are a bit too old or feeble, just send a PM to old tittyjet and let me tell you, "I told you so."

Why the hell do you think Canadians cross the border in droves to get medical work done??????

Why the hell do you think Canadians cross the border in droves to get medical work done??????

Why the hell do you think all our American jobs cross the Canadian border to get free health insurance??????

In the global marketplace, our system is in an incredible burden on employers. We are losing quality jobs at an alarming rate because employers see better opportunities elsewhere. It's time to make America competitive again. It's time to take the burden off employers.

Figured you conservatives would be smarter than this... how silly of me.

I am voting early and often. Once for McCain, Obama and Yo mama!

STATEMENT OF SENATOR JOHN McCAIN CHAIRMAN SENATE COMMITTEE ON
COMMERCE, SCIENCE AND TRANSPORTATION FULL COMMITTEE HEARING ON THE
STATUS OF LABOR ISSUES IN THE AVIATION INDUSTRY

"Americans have been stranded time and time again as a result of
Illegal union activity. According published reports, last year, United
Canceled over 23,000 flights as a result of its pilots' refusal to fly
Overtime, destroying carefully planned vacations and business trips.
Northwest and Delta canceled thousands of flights preemptively over
The holiday seasons to combat alleged mechanic slowdowns and failure
To fly overtime by pilots, respectively. The pilots' sickout at
American in 1999 left thousands of people stranded."

"In this day and age, a job action at a major airline can have a
Catastrophic effect on the aviation system and the consumer. The rest
Of the system would have a difficult time absorbing the excess
Passengers and the system could come to a standstill. While management
And labor are affected by this, both parties have contingencies
Planned in the event of a job action. The consumer is the one most
Affected by this increase in labor actions. It is the family flying
Across country for their vacation, the daughter coming home from
College, and the son going to visit a sick parent who can not reach
Their destinations because the unions have taken matters into their
Own hands. In the case of pilots, these are people who, according to
Industry, on average make $140,000 while working less than 80 hours a
Month. At the same time, according to the most recent data in 1999,the
Average per capita income was $21,281."

"The last two pilot contract negotiations, United and Delta, both of
Which had alleged job actions with far reaching effects on the
Consumer, resulted in a pay scale where, by the end of the contract,
The senior pilots will make over $280,000 in base pay with the ability
To make one-third more for voluntarily flying 25 more hours a month.
Not only should the consumer not have to suffer as a result of this
Avarice, but many analysts are concerned that with labor costs rising
So high, airlines will not be able to survive economically or will at
Least put themselves in a hole for years to come. Labor costs for an
Airline are now projected to be over 33% of its fixed costs."

"Many people argue that management has a choice, but in reality, the
Choice is to give in to higher salary demands that a company may not
Be able to afford or face a debilitating strike that may cripple the
Airline and force it out of business. I don't believe that anyone
Would argue that is a choice."
