Your numbers are way off in your effort to draw the spotlight away from the facts. I see you didn't bother to make an attempt to refute anything else I said because you know the American people are correct when they give Bush an approval rating in the 30% range after 8 years of suffering through his disasterous economic and foreign policies.

I will admit that I forgot to include Japan in the mix. China and Japan hold 47% of our national debt. So how do you come up with 5% for China alone? I used round numbers of 50% total...so sue me.

Here is the link for you to verify all of this. You'll have to scroll down about 3/4 of the way, but it's there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

In one of Obama's recent Primary victory speechs, he said, "Am I my brother's keeper? Yes I am!" That goes to the heart of the difference between Republicans and Democrats. You as a Republican are all about the 'I've got mine screw everyone else' mentality. You have no compassion. You have no vision for a better country or a better world. Yet you don't want that coal burning power plant in your backyard, but it's OK to put it in someone else's. You don't give a hoot about the 54 million Americans who have no health insurance because you've got yours even if the cost of your insurance is insane. We as Democrats follow the belief that our country was founded on the principles of compassion and helping others who are less fortunate than ourselves. It also means protecting the planet, and beautifying our surroundings to pass down an even better environment to our children. That would be an anathema to someone like yourself who like a typical GOP robot spouts the Bush/Cheney greed & corruption program while the house is falling down on all sides in front of your face.

Wrong again. Did you even read the wikipedia? Here's the wiki quote: "....traditional defense of the national debt is that we "owe the debt to ourselves", but that is increasingly not true. The US debt in the hands of foreign governments is 25% of the total[31],

My statistics are from this report on national debt I read just this week: http://www.concordcoalition.org/doc/crs-debt-basics.pdf

It's from 2005 but the numbers are similar to your referenced numbers. Your numbers say that 25% of federal debt is foreign owned it was 22% in 2005. Of that your numbers say 47% is Japan and China (which is about 10% of total federal debt). Thus making China less than 5% because in 2005 Japan had 4 times as much of our debt as China.

Once these feel good programs punish American business, what evil corporation will hire your sorry arse?!

Typical liberal Obama supporter. Feeling trumps facts every time:(.

You are right on 9-11. But Deregulation resulted in the phenominal growth we have seen in this industry since then.

At least with deregulation we no longer have the CAB ( Govt) decideing who can fly where or how much to charge. Some people don't realize that competition is a good thing...weeds out the weak...keeps those that are innovative going strong.

Tom Daschel's wife? Gee....I'm not aware of anything she did as a lobbyist. I guess any wife ofn a Republican wouldn't lower herself to making millions for using her government contacts...

...like Tom Delay's wife or daughter.....

This Indeopendent is probably gonna vote for Obama....after voting for Bush...Bush...Clinton...Bush...Reagan....Reagan...

It's about who owns the airline

Branson (liberal) pays low wages at his Virgin companies.

Ron Burkle (democrat) owns Aloha, stripped their pension and wages.

NWA Daschel's wife- not great pilot relations there

Hawaiian (Gotbaum trustee democrat) tried to gut pension and had the first 1113 trial in US airlines history.

I'm saying that it's who owns the airline that makes the calls. There are dem and rep owners and they've screwed us all equally.

I'll vote my US Navy heart and vote for who will keep this nation strong (so you whiny liberals still have a safe haven from which to cry and complain).

Fly Navy!!

I think we've given John McCain enough. How many millions of dollars worth of smokin' holes did he make?

Let any other "naval aviator" be near that much bent metal and he better have an admiral daddy or he wouldn't go near another airplane.

I'd be irrational about airplane related stuff if they dropped like flies around me too.

Neither party has a soul anymore. So, it's down to voting in one's self-interest. In that respect McCain has made the aviation profession his enemy and is not my enemy. McCain is a hothead. We don't need that in national defense.

This from a veteran and an airline pilot . . . NO way McCain gets a vote from me. Not much else to chose from, but it comes down to anybody but McCain.

Blind people like FlickerFade and the others that think like him and vote for people like Bush and McCain are the reason that our country is facing the problems it is facing today. I bet FlickerFade still has high hopes that the FBI or CIA or whomever he wants is still going to find the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq but enough of that, lets get to the subject at hand. In 2006 the percentage of U.S. public debt owed to foreigners had doubled from what it was in 2000.Take China for example. As of March of 2006, China held over $321 billion worth of U.S. Treasuries, up from the $60 billion it owned at the end of 2000. That is an increase of 535% in 6 years. Similarly, Japan now owns $640 billion worth of U.S. Treasuries, up from $317.7 billion in December 2000. That is an increase of just over 200%, so now tell me who is buying more of our national debt, lets continue. Lately, however, America has also borrowed heavily from oil exporter nations (as defined by the Department of the Treasury), which include many nations that despise America. Luminaries such as Venezuela, Ecuador, Iran, Libya, Algeria, Indonesia and Iraq, and several other primarily Middle Eastern nations, now own $98 billion worth of U.S. debt. Now in your eyes $98 billion is not a great deal of money. WOW. But I don't feel very secure that MR. Chavez in Venezuela owns even 1 Penny of our national debt, Lets continue.
According to Brad Setser, director of research at Roubini Global Economics, “The irony is that the three countries in the world adding to reserves the fastest and thus buying the most U.S. debt now are China, Saudi Arabia and Russia, none of them democracies. … We are increasingly counting on a group of creditors who are not our closest friends but have a bigger and bigger stake in America,” he says. I'm not sure how we read the same web page and drew two totally different conclusions. I, too, was suspicious of the 5% figure Flickerfade quoted, and ended up on Wiki trying to verify it. There's more involved, and it's worth anyone's time to check the link out.

First, foreign ownership was 44% of public debt in 2006 (higher now). The US government itself owns a little more than half of the $9.3 trillion debt. You read a Japan/China figure of 47%, but that is the percentage of foreign debt only that is owned by those two countries. I looked, but could not find the exact percentage that China owns, but it is less than Japan. The trend, however, is for more Chinese ownership and less Japanese.

George the first lost three A/C in one-year TBM’s; maybe it is the making of a president. Bent metal was a way of life in the Navy in the early to mid 60’s; there wasn't even a NATOP's until the late 50's. The monthly safety reports would regularly show the lost of 12 airplanes and 6 pilots to non-combat causes. BTW Not all pilots agree with you, there is a large block of us who are going to vote for John. Some are even members of ALPA. Imagine that, still a free nation of free thinkers, what a novel concept.

I missed the part where someone asked you not to think freely.

People are giving their opinions here - you're entitled to yours. Others are just as entitled to disagree with you.

My overall take is that I'm sick and tired of going to the voting booth and trying to determine who sucks the least. With 300 million people I can't believe we can't come up with better. The system is broken.

Please give Dems some credit.....the blind NOW gals has been neutered thanks to Dems like Clinton and Kennedy. Blind minorities still vote Dem and yet they still claim they are under-represented, blind labor has supported Dems and the mass exodus of jobs leaving the USA were under a Dem POTUS - neither party has done anything to "right it", King Hillary on the board of ChinaMart/WalMart, blind environmentalist continue to support people like Al Gore as he flies his GulfScream around the world to warn all the peasants about global warming. We beat ourselves up over the environment but turn a blind eye to China (afterall it is the whole world we're worried about). Neither party wants to address the problem of illegals but yet the government "demands" more information on law abiding citizens. Sorry but the Dems aren't going to "save us" and the Reps haven't already proven they can't/won't. Unfortunately, I don't have the answer. We have no or very minimal people of honor and integrity in leadership positions.
What is ironic about the political situation is our politicians are peeing on us and telling us it is raining and we're OK with that. However, we distrust our company leadership (the majority of cases rightly so). Same type of people in both government and business leadership.

Where do you think the money comes from to send your kids to school? The parks and beaches? The infrastructure? The police and fire departments?...and all the other social services that you think are unimportant?

Anyone who thinks our "income taxes" go to pay for anything needs to do some research!!

Look at all the other taxes we pay!

Federal Income Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax
Workers Compensation Tax
Social Security Tax
Medicare Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened?

i vote republican but would never vote for McCain. first time in my life i will vote democrat will be this time.

Finish the job

So PilotYip tell us why you think McCain is the right choice in your eyes. uba757
He wants to finish the job in Iraq, anyone else who might be elected wants to use the Vietnam route. That is send a clear message as congress did in 1974 that we will not intervene if you to want conquer the country you promised not to in the 1973 peace talks. Remember South Vietnam fell to a Mechanized Army using Armor, the very Army we were designed to destroy in spades. The Dems will make GW II's spending look like a walk in the park. Electing Oboma will be the same gov't we had under Jimmy Carter.

Am I my brother's keeper? I agree wholeheartedly!! Is the government my brother's keeper? Not in a million years, and this is my problem with Obama. He is a socialist. Obama believes that we should give our money to the government and let them distribute it as they see fit for the greater good. Where does personal responsibility come into play? And before you start talking about compassion, let me suggest a read for you. Here's a preview, A new book called "Who Really Cares?" by Arthur Brooks says conservative Americans give 30 percent more money to charity than liberal Americans. Also, religious people give up four times more money to charity than secular people.

The fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans is the following. Republicans want to make poor people rich, where as Democrats want to make rich people poor.

The fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans is the following. Republicans want to make poor people rich, where as Democrats want to make rich people poor.

1. Where does Obama say that? If you can't prove your accusation, then don't make any.

2. The author is most likely talking about RELIGIOUS CHARITIES. I'm sure he is right. All the right wing evangelical supremists dump massive money into the coffers of groups just like themselves. There are many other charities out there such as those that fight homelessness and hunger or those that strive to protect the environment or other sound social causes. These are the ones supported by liberals and secular people.

3. Republicans don't give a damn about poor people. They just scorn them and come up with phrases such as "personal responsibility" just like you did in your rant. Personal responsibility is something we all have, but it only carries you so far when up against a corrupt neo-con government like the Bush administration who thinks they are above the law, do not have to follow the will of the people and will sell the people out in an instant if it means lineing the pockets of their friends with more money in companies like Enron. So...how is Tom Delay doing these days? When your job gets shipped overseas, I guess it's your fault since you didn't have enough "personal responsibility".
