Already out...

Farscape,

It seems that those calls already went out. The next round will probably go out for June. In the beginning of the process, folks were sharing their quals and the fact that they were being called for the interview. Unfortunately, some of the board members have engaged in the practice of questioning the qualifications of the people that come forward and share their information. Wondering... "How come MR. X got the call and I haven't". It seems that as time passes fewer and fewer guys are sharing that info.
Southwest calls people in the order that THEY like. So there is nothing to be deduced from the order or the people they call. Also, Southwest gets a lot more information than you can see on the left side of the screen. That is the basis for the determination. I am sure that the last thing you want to see, if you get called for an interview, is someone ,that doesn't know you, questioning your worthiness to get an interview at SWA. Being someone hoping for an interview, I always like to hear that they are calling, as opposed to silence, but that's what happens as a result of the bad attitude of some.

Was kind of curious myself... especially since by watching some of the other threads about class dates and such, I've noticed that people with civilian backgrounds and less overall qualifications were getting called and I wasn't.

Rather than making me want to bash Southwest for them not calling me or the guys for getting in with less time (happens all the time), I congratulate those who have gotten the call and it gives me hope that I may be on the "short-list" as well. It's too bad that other people give them crap about it; can't they just be happy for someone? Heck, a previous coworker of mine was in the first round to be called and I think it's great, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy (plus having those pictures of him and those pigs down in Mexico after the tequila shooter battle should make for a fantastic LOR someday). :D

Everything happens for a reason, just gotta enjoy your life for what you have and keep on keeping on... getting peeved at other people doesn't do anyone a d*mn bit of good and in this case, shuts down the information pipeline!

My question is how they take stuff in your past and factor it into the overall quals for getting "the call" or not: way the heck back in '95 I received a Letter Of Investigation that, of course, is no longer in my files. The Fed was found to be in error, issued a letter stating such but refused to remove the LOI and my attorney said not to worry about it so I didn't. Wanting to be up-front with everything, I included it in my Southwest app where it has that question about previous letters / enforcement action (I hate that the two are combined in a question), but in doing so did I shoot myself in the foot with "too much information"?

Just trying to do the right thing, but as they said in "S.W.A.T.": "Sometimes doing the right thing isn't doing the right thing." ;)

Skeletons

Lear70,

not that I am qualified to give you an informed opinion, but I do not believe SWA or any other reputable company would or should hold a mistake you made many years ago (or did not make in your case) against you. Nobody is perfect and I think that they know this. I have skeletons in my closet too but also have many qualities and characteristics about myself that I believe make me a good canididate for SWA. With that in mind I think SWA will give me a fair shot at working for them so if I were you I would not "sweat the small things". In the immortal words of Stuart Smally from Saturday Night Live, "Im smart enough, Im good enough, and gosh darn' it , people like me!!!:D "

good luck,

Lear70,

Yours is a legitimate question. If you haven't already, make sure you get a copy of the letter from the FAA saying the investigation was a mistake to the people department.

The folks in the people department are friendly and would not mind getting a phone call from you on this type of issue. They may tell you it is not a factor in getting selected for the interview, I don't know.

From what I hear the people department is working very hard at making sure the new 'system' to select interviewees is fair.
