This is one of those arguments I can't win.
If I tell you that you are right, you win. If I tell you that you are wrong you just say I am in denial. Good set up for you hindsight. Although people can see through your ploy pretty easily. I won't post anymore on this after this post as it it pointless but you did give me a good laugh.
"just trying to highlight that the military denies it pretty strongly, you are a classic example of this denial, however it may be for different reasons."
What different reasons would there be? Are you admitting that not all of us are propoganda machines trained to deny anything ever goes wrong in the military? We know it isn't utopia but we don't put up with dirtbags either.
I haven't denied anything. I agreed that the things you mentioned do happen. It just doesn't happen as often as you may think it does. You are basing your OPINIONS on hearsay, second hand reports, and perhaps even a brief glimpse of what a military base might hold. But you haven't any facts to back up your claims.
This is my favorite: "Sorry if we don't agree on a point of fact"
What fact? As I said before, you have posted none. You have posted some inflamatory remarks that, while they do exist they do not run rampant as you seem to think they do.
What do I base my opinion on? 17 years of service in two services, working with all of the services, holding rank in all three levels enlisted, warrant officer and commissioned officer and actually experiencing military life and many military bases. I have been privy to many blotter (MP) reports posted on different bases acting as the senior duty officer.
And the only and simple fact of all of this is again, that it happens but I have yet to be surrounded by a bunch of wife beating alcoholics with a thousand yard stare in my entire career.
So take your agenda, whatever it is, and cram it. I thought this was supposed to be a sight about aviation, military aviation in this particular thread. You have successfully taken away from that.
I won't be wasting any more of my time on this subject. The original question was how much maturity is needed to be in the military. While the writer of the original post seems to have enough, you hindsight, seem to be lacking even enough to make it in civilized society.
