Oh man nothing like a night out with your boys at cheers in laredo followed by taco palenque!!! If you go across the border take a cab to the compound, bring cash and dont get too wasted ;) or you could just have a buddy use his amex the day before he quits AJI.....

Watch your kidneys...

A day late now, but if you're ever back, I'll give a third to Taco Palenque. Also near the airport is El Oasis, and a bit farther away is El Mariachi. Phenomenal breakfast burritos. And as MrSky mentioned above, Danny's on the square has the best frijoles borrachos I've ever had outside of homemade.

Taco Palenque rules! Open 24 hours, and the best tacos. Try the carne guisada plate and make tacos out of it, load 'em up with salsa and goodies. It's not too far from the mall either.
Watch out crossing the border after dark. Nuevo Laredo is the most dangerous border town out there. More kidnappings happen there than any other.

dude also start working on your KLRD mamacita. Plenty of hot mamas walking around. Go to the mall, supermarket, etc to meet them.

LRD also has OutBack, Chilis, etc. There are FAR worse places to be.

Our hotel there, the La Posada, is right at the bridge that carries both foot and vehicle traffic. If you're near there, you can pick up a bottle of hooch at the duty free store. They walk it to the bridge, hand it to you as you head for the gate, then you pay the toll to walk across, the toll to walk back, and the TX sin tax, grand total of less than $3.00. Big time savings over the same at any other liquor store, and it kills some time if that's part of your goal. Or just walk across, shop around the various liquor stores in Nuevo Laredo, and you can find more variety than in the state-side duty free stores. Just be careful while on the other side. Kidnappings and shootings are rampant, but they aren't targeting gringos generally. We just get in the way sometimes.

If you have kids (especially girls), or a petite wife, the clothing stores in the area can't be beat, either. I'm a bit too monogamous for boys town and would much rather bring home something that the wife can wear over something she can contract. But to each his/her own!
